Bruins Shut Out in Wisconsin, 1-0
October 09, 2025 | Women's Soccer
Madison, Wisc. - No. 9 UCLA outshot Wisconsin, 14-3, but fell to the Badgers by a 1-0 score after Adee Boer volleyed a corner kick into the back of the net for the game's only goal in the 54th minute.
Wisconsin (10-3-1, 4-2-1) earned its third Top 10 win of the season. UCLA (8-4-1, 4-2-1 in the Big Ten) dropped its second consecutive 1-0 game, both coming on the road.
The two teams played to a scoreless half, with UCLA generating seven shots to Wisconsin's one. The Badgers' shot was a near-goal, as Ashley Martinez's shot following a UCLA turnover went just wide of goal in the 22nd minute. The Bruins' best look in the first half came in the 19th minute on a hard shot by Lily Boyden that was saved by Wisconsin goalkeeper Drew Stover.
UCLA came out swinging quickly in the second half, with Kara Croone getting an opportunity in the box that was tackled away by a Wisconsin defender. Grace Shank and Oruha Hayashi nearly teamed up in the 48th minute, but Stover intercepted the through ball. Just a few minutes later, UCLA goalkeeper Daphne Nakfoor made a nice save in traffic on a shot by Martinez. Nakfoor had no chance, however, on the Badgers' next opportunity in the 54th minute. Kiara Gilmore's corner kick connected with Boer, who rocketed a volley to the far post to break the scoreless tie.
After video review confirmed the goal, video review nearly gave the Bruins an opportunity to tie six minutes later. Official reviewed a potential foul in the box when Kara Croone went down, but the review determined there was no foul.
The Bruins continued to push for the equalizer, but kept getting denied by Stover, who finished the game with seven saves. Leena Powell's shot in the 63rd minute was tipped out of bounds by Stover. Val Vargas was denied on back-to-back opportunities. Her curling free kick just outside of the box went right into the hands of Stover in the 75th minute, and Stover stopped her again a few moments later on a chip to the top left corner. Croone also had a good look in the final five minutes, getting a shot off in the box, but it hit the side netting.
UCLA will complete its road trip on Sunday at 1pm CT at Minnesota.
