November 12, 2025 | Men's Soccer
COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The UCLA men's soccer team advanced to its first-ever Big Ten Tournament final on Wednesday evening, defeating No. 1-ranked Maryland 2-0.
Ander Marticorena and Sergi Solans Ormo scored for the Bruins (7-6-4) in the win. The loss was Maryland's (12-1-3) first loss of the 2025 season.
The No. 4-seeded Bruins advanced to their first Big Ten Tournament final on Wednesday night. UCLA will now face the No. 3 seed Michigan on Sunday at 12 pm PT (3 pm ET) for a chance to lift its first trophy as a member of the Big Ten Conference in the squad's second year in the league.
Marticorena opened the scoring for UCLA in the 74th minute. Adrian Aguilar sent a through ball for Solans Ormo to chase down. Solans Ormo chased the ball down and fed the ball to Marticorena, who found himself open on the penalty spot and curled the ball into the bottom left corner of the net to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead.
In front of over 4,000 fans the Bruins silenced the crowd in the 84th minute when Solans Ormo extended UCLA's lead to 2-0. Shakir Nixon dribbled down the right side of the Maryland defense before whipping in a cross that found a crashing Marticorena. The Spaniard then laid the ball back across goal to Solans Ormo who slotted the ball past the keeper and put UCLA up 2-0.
Keeper Kevin Box helped the Bruins to a fourth clean sheet on the season on Wednesday. The graduate student recorded four saves, including three in the second half, to seal the win.
The opening 45 minutes were a back-and-forth affair with both teams looking for the opening goal. The Bruins dominated possession over the first 20 minutes before Maryland grew into the game. Maryland then took control of the possession and had a few shots, with none coming on target until Stephane Njike.
Up Next: UCLA moves on to the Big Ten Tournament final on Sunday against No. 3 Michigan. The game will kickoff at 12 pm PT (3 pm ET) and will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
