UCLA Falls to No. 1 Nebraska in Four

LOS ANGELES โย The UCLA women's volleyball team fell to No. 1 Nebraska in four sets on Friday evening before a record-setting crowd of 10,498 inside Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom Financial.

Set scores were 17-25, 23-25, 25-19, 15-25.

UCLA's (14-11, 8-7 Big Ten) third set victory snapped Nebraska's streak of 48 consecutive set wins becoming the first Big Ten opponent to take a set off the Huskers this season.

The Bruins also set a new program attendance record, drawing 10,498 fans to Pauley Pavilion and surpassing the previous mark of 7,216 established on Sept. 22, 2022 against USC.

Maggie Li delivered her best performance in a UCLA uniform, posting a season-high 20 kills at a .333 clip and adding 10 digs for a double-double. Cheridyn Leverette followed with 17 kills, her highest output since Oct. 4, along with three digs and two blocks. Marianna Singletary joined the double-digit club with 12 kills, marking her seventh match this season with 10 or more.

Setter Kate Duffey guided the offense to a .221 hitting percentage, recording her eighth double-double of the year with 45 assists and 10 digs. Libero Lola Schumacher anchored the back row with 17 digs, her 21st match reaching double figures.

Nebraska's attack was paced by Andi Jackson, who tallied 15 kills in an errorless effort that saw her post a .625 hitting percentage. Harper Murray chipped in 14 kills and Rebekah Allick added 13.

In set three, Nebraska raced to a 5-1 lead before UCLA clawed back with a 3-0 run fueled by back-to-back kills from Li to make it 8-7. Leverette found her rhythm with three straight kills, and Briscoe punished an overpass to ignite a 4-0 run that gave UCLA its first lead at 11-10. The Bruins extended the margin to 15-12 after another Briscoe block and held off Nebraska with timely swings from Singletary. Li's kill pushed the score to 20-16, forcing a Husker timeout. Carly Hendrickson followed with an ace, and Li added another kill to cap a 5-0 run. Li sealed the set with two more kills, handing Nebraska its first set loss since Sept. 16 and snapping the Huskers' streak of 48 consecutive set victories, including an unbeaten run in Big Ten play.

Back-to-back kills from Li capped a 3-0 run that pushed the margin to 10-5 and forced a Nebraska timeout. The Cornhuskers answered with a 3-0 burst of their own to cut into the lead, prompting a UCLA timeout. Li stayed hot, delivering a key side-out kill and finishing the set with nine kills to pace all players. UCLA regained the advantage at 16-14 after consecutive kills from Singletary, but Nebraska responded with a 3-0 run to move ahead 19-18. The Cornhuskers closed on a 4-0 spurt and, despite the Bruins fighting off two set points, escaped with a 25-23 win.
