UCLA Defeats Michigan, 5-0, to Capture Big Ten Tournament Title

November 16, 2025 | Men's Soccer

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The UCLA men's soccer team captured its first-ever Big Ten Conference Tournament title and earned an automatic berth the NCAA Tournament following its dominant 5-0 victory over No. 3-seed Michigan in the championship match.

The Bruins (8-6-4) secure their first conference title since 2023 and are now set to make their fifth consecutive postseason appearance.

Sergi Solans Ormo delivered his third hat trick of the season to propel UCLA to a commanding victory. With the performance, the Bruins' striker set a program record for the most hat tricks in a single season. He also etched his name into conference history, becoming the first player ever to record a hat trick in the Big Ten Tournament since its inception in 1991.

Solans Ormo's remarkable run of form continues as he has now tallied 12 goals in his last five matches, bringing his season total to 16.

Konstantinos Georgallides scored a brace on the afternoon, scoring the opener in the first half and capping off the performance with the Bruins' fifth goal.

UCLA struck first in the 13th minute with a dazzling sequence down the left flank. The attacking move began when Tre Wright threaded a ball into space for a surging Ander Marticorena, who delivered a pinpoint cross to Solans Ormo just outside the six-yard box. Solans Ormo's effort rattled off the crossbar, but Georgallides charged into the area and buried the rebound with a diving header to give the Bruins an early lead. This was Georgallides' fourth goal of the season.

The Bruins doubled their advantage just before the break when Shakir Nixon outpaced his defender on the right wing and whipped a cross into the box. Solans Ormo rose to meet it and nodded home his 14th goal of the season.

UCLA extended their lead just minutes into the second half after Nixon intercepted a pass and sparked the counterattack. He found Georgallides in midfield, who quickly linked with Philip Naef on the wing before receiving the return ball. Driving toward the edge of the box, Georgallides slipped a perfectly weighted pass to Solans Ormo, and the striker buried a right-footed shot across goal to make it a three-goal advantage.

Solans Ormo completed his hat trick in the 60th minute, pouncing on an errant pass from the Michigan goalkeeper at the edge of the box and coolly lobbing his shot into the net for a 4-0 lead.

Barely a minute later, Georgallides added UCLA's fifth, capping a surging run with a precise right-footed strike into the bottom corner to seal the Bruins' victory.

Up Next: UCLA will await its NCAA Tournament destination from selection committee on Monday, Nov. 17.
