Bruins Top UC Santa Barbara, 87-50, on Field Trip Day in Pauley

LOS ANGELES – The No. 3-ranked UCLA women's basketball team routed UC Santa Barbara, 87-50, in front of 6,863 fans and elementary schoolers on Field Trip Day in its home opener at Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom Financial Thursday afternoon.
The Bruins (2-0) saw a trio of 20-plus-point scorers in the win in guard Gabriela Jaquez with 21 points and guards Kiki Rice and Gianna Kneepkens with 20 points apiece. UCLA last had three or more players finish with 20-plus points on Nov. 12, 2023 in a 113-64 victory over Bellarmine: Jaquez (30 points), Charisma Osborne (24), Lauren Betts (22) and Londynn Jones (21).
As a team, UCLA shot 49.2 percent (30-of-61 FG) with 10 3-pointers while limiting to UC Santa Barbara to 36.2 percent (21-of-58 FG). Rice added a team-high eight rebounds and three assists while Jaquez finished with six rebounds.
Charlisse Leger-Walker, making her home debut in Westwood, tallied a team-high seven assists in addition to scoring eight points. In doing so, Leger-Walker eclipsed the 400-assist mark for her college career.
UCLA rebounded 14 of its 31 misses and answered with 13 second chance points. The Bruins' forced 17 Gaucho (1-1) turnovers and translated them in to 24 points.
Forward Olivia Bradley led UC Santa Barbara in scoring with 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting.
The Gauchos opened the second period with a layup by guard Madison Naro which cut the Bruins' lead to its smallest margin of the game at points at 21-19. UCLA proceeded to go on a 30-3 run to close the half that would balloon its lead to 51-26. Ten of Rice's 20 points came in the second quarter.
UCLA scored first 11 points of the fourth quarter to acquire its largest lead of the game at 85-43 with 6:06 remaining.
Bruins two-sport star Megan Grant graced John & Nell Wooden Court for the first time in her career in the game's final minutes. She logged her first two rebounds as a UCLA hooper.
Center Lauren Betts totaled 12 points (5-of-7 FG) and seven boards in her 27 minutes of action.
The Bruins return to action next Monday, Nov. 10 for a neutral site showdown with Oklahoma at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, Calif. at 7:30 p.m. (PT). Tickets are available at the LINK.
