Men's Basketball Takes Down Cal Poly, 108-87

December 19, 2025 | Men's Basketball

LOS ANGELES โ€“ The UCLA men's basketball team defeated Cal Poly, 108-87, in a non-conference game at Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom Financial on Friday evening.
ย
UCLA (9-3) had six players finish in double-figure scoring against Cal Poly (5-8). Skyy Clark led the way with 30 points on 10-for-19 shooting and added six three-pointers. Tyler Bilodeau (24 points), Donovan Dent (16 points), Jamar Brown (14 points), Trent Perry (12 points), and Eric Dailey Jr. (10 points) all finished with at least 10 points.

The last time the Bruins had six players in double-figures was against Norfolk State on November 11, 2022, a game UCLA won 86-56. UCLA also eclipsed the 100-point plateau for the first time since an 100-53 win over Pepperdine on Nov. 22, 2023.

Individually, Clark scored 30 points on Friday evening. He became the first UCLA player with 30 or more points since Dylan Andrews totaled 31 points in the Pac-12 Tournament on March 13, 2024, in a 67-57 win over Oregon State.
ย
Clark shot 6-for-12 from 3-point distance after having made 6 of 10 from long-range on Wednesday against Arizona State. He became the first player in school history to have hit six or more 3-pointers in back-to-back games, with the NCAA having adopted the 3-point line at the start of the 1986-87 season.

The Bruins trailed Cal Poly, 45-43, at halftime on Friday and pulled away in the second half. UCLA shot 62 percent after halftime, totaling 15 assists and zero turnovers. The Bruins scored 65 second-half points, marking the program's highest scoring output in any half since a 137-100 win over George Mason on Dec. 22, 1994. UCLA had a 66-point second half in the win over George Mason (and 71 in the first half), nearly 31 years ago.
ย
"Obviously, we have a scouting report and we watch film, and we talk about it," said Mick Cronin, The Michael Price Family UCLA Men's Head Basketball Coach. "I told them that they're going to shoot more threes tonight then they usually shoot, because that's their best chance to win. Our guys rallied up and give them credit. They tightened up the defense in the second half, and we forced 24 turnovers and built up a 27-point lead."

Clark connected from three for the sixth time, pushing his scoring total to a season-high 30 points. That helped the Bruins secure their then-largest cushion on the night, at 99-77, with 4:25 to play.
ย
UCLA came out firing to start the second half, and opened the half on a 17-2 run, taking a 60-47 lead in the opening five minutes. The Bruins made eight of their first 10 shots in the half, while Clark led the way with seven points, including his fourth 3-pointer of the night.
ย
The Mustangs cut the deficit to six, 74-68, with 9:52 left in the contest, with their 11th made three of the night. Brown responded immediately at the other end with his second 3-pointer of the night, pushing the UCLA lead to nine, 77-68. Dent stole the ball and then pushed the pace up the court before finding Brown, who finished at the rim, putting UCLA up 15 points, at 85-70, with 6:40 left in the game.

The Mustangs were 9-for-17 (53%) from 3-point range in the opening half and shot 56% from the field in the opening half. Cal Poly had established a 45-43 cushion at the intermission.

The lead changed hands five times throughout the half and the game was also tied six times. Dent finished through contact and made a three throw to help UCLA tie the contest, 43-43, in the final minute of the opening half.

Earlier in the game, UCLA had clawed back and tied the score, 36-36, when Clark attacked the rim and made the layup. Dailey Jr. then made a pair of free throws to give UCLA a 38-36 lead before Cal Poly connected from three to retake the lead, at 39-38. ย

Cal Poly put together a mini-scoring run of their own and cashed in from deep on back-to-back possessions to edge in front, 26-24, before extending their advantage to five points, 31-26. Bilodeau then got the Bruins back on track with a finish down low to cut Cal Poly's lead to three, 31-28, with 5:05 remaining in the opening half.

The Bruins utilized a 9-0 run to take a 22-17 lead courtesy of Jamar Brown, who connected from mid-range to put the Bruins and Donovan Dent, who finished at the rim with 9:21 remaining in the half.

Clark continued his hot streak from behind the 3-point line early in Friday's contest. He hit two of his first three from behind the arc to put the Bruins ahead, 9-5, three minutes into the game.

The Bruins will host UC Riverside on Tuesday, Dec. 23, at 1:00 p.m. (PT). The game will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network.
