UCLA Sets DMR School Record at BU Last Chance Meet
February 21, 2025 | Track & Field
The UCLA track & field team on Friday had its final day of competition before the 2025 Big Ten Championships, with a small group of student-athletes competing at the Boston University Last Chance Meet and the Arkansas Qualifier.
The day was highlighted by a school-record time in the men's distance medley relay in Boston. The Bruins' lone entry in that meet, the quartet of Andreas Dybdahl, Parker Raymond, Angus Harrington, and Bennett Booth-Genthe finished their race in 9:28.70, taking down the previous record of 9:29.61 set in 2016.
It was just the second UCLA DMR ever to finish under the 9:30 mark.
Meanwhile, a pair of field athletes at the Arkansas Qualifier had strong performances of their own earlier in the day.
Michael Pinckney got the day started for the Bruins by winning the men's weight throw with a season-long mark of 21.72m (71-03.25). He was the lone competitor to break 20 meters, and he beat out runner-up Zac Robbins of Oklahoma State by over 2.50 meters.
After Friday's performance, Pinckney holds the three-longest weight throw marks in school history. In addition to his mark on Friday, he also holds the school record at 22.05m (72-04.25) while he also posted a mark of 21.99m (72-01.75) during the 2023 season.
Ka'Leila Abrille closed out for the Bruins in Arkansas with a fifth-place result in the women's pole vault. She cleared 4.15m (13-07.25), her third-best mark of the campaign.
The entire UCLA squad returns to action next weekend with the Indoor Big Ten Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. on Feb. 28 and Mar. 1.
