No. 1 Bruins Hold Off Ducks in Eugene, 62-52

February 09, 2025 | Women's Basketball

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - No. 1-ranked UCLA Women's Basketball (23-0, 10-0 Big Ten) won its 22nd-consecutive game against Oregon at Matthew Knight Arena on Sunday afternoon. The final score was 62-52.

Junior Londynn Jones was the leading scorer of the game, finishing with a season-high 21 points. She went 6-of-10 from the field and 5-of-7 from three. She also recorded two rebounds, two steals, and an assist.

The first quarter was low scoring, ending 12-7, but the Bruins finished with a five-point lead over the Ducks. Jones led the quarter in scoring with six points from two early threes. Lauren Betts, Gabriela Jaquez, and Kiki Rice each contributed two points in the first frame.

UCLA outscored Oregon 13-12 in the second quarter to finish the first half up 25-19. Freshmen Elina Aarnisalo and Kendall Dudley each scored quickly in the quarter. Jones scored again from deep while only missing two shots from the field in the first half. Betts also hit a jumper before the team went on a five-minute scoring drought. UCLA maintained their lead through defense, especially Angela Dugalic, who finished the first half with five rebounds and two blocks.

The Bruins began to hit their stride in the third quarter, extending their lead to double digits before the final ten minutes of play. Jones continued her elite scoring performance, scoring five points on back-to-back possessions early in the quarter. She first converted her own steal into a layup on the fast break, then hit her fourth three-pointer of the game after an offensive rebound that came off her missed free throw. Betts and Dugalic each scored five points in the frame, with Dugalic drawing a foul in the paint and completing the three-point play. The Bruins finished the third up 43-33.

UCLA struggled with turnovers in the fourth quarter, but scored 19 points to pick up its twenty-first consecutive double-digit win. Jones had a seven point performance, connecting on her fifth three-pointer of the game and going 4-4 from the free throw line. Aarnisalo and Timea Gardiner also hit a three-pointer each, while Dudley, Jaquez, and Dugalic added two points each. On the defensive end, Betts recorded two blocks and Jones and Aarnisalo each added a steal. UCLA picked up their twenty-first double-digit win and their eleventh conference win since becoming members of the Big Ten.
