Women’s Rowing Begins Spring Campaign against Trojans Saturday
March 07, 2025 | Women's Rowing
LOS ANGELES – UCLA women's rowing will open its spring racing season against crosstown rival USC on Saturday, March 8, at the Port of Los Angeles.
Races begin at 8:40 a.m. PT on Saturday; six races are planned for the day. Four-person shells will head out first, with the 3V4+ and 4V4+ starting off the morning of competition. The first eight-person boats launch with the 3V8+ and 4V8+ racing at 9:20 a.m. PT. The day will conclude with the 1V8+ going off at 10:20 a.m. PT.
"This team has shown incredible work ethic and resilience, facing every challenge head-on and coming back from winter break ready to compete," said Associate Head Coach Anna Thomson. "With the largest squad in UCLA Rowing history, we are beyond excited to see every athlete line up and race this weekend. It's a testament to their dedication and the strength of this program and the support from UCLA athletics."
There will be 23 points available in the six races Saturday in pursuit of the Amy Fuller Kearney-Lori Guerro Azbill Trophy. The trophy honors former UCLA head coach Amy Fuller Kearney, who led the program from its NCAA inaugural season in 2001-02 through 2020-21, and former USC assistant coach Lori Guerro Azbill. The winning team will be presented the Amy Fuller Kearney-Lori Guerro Azbill Trophy for the UCLA-USC competition immediately after the meet.
UCLA starts its season with a dual-meet regatta against the Trojans for the third time in four years; the Bruins and Trojans began the 2023 and 2022 campaigns with head-to-head rivalry matchups. The Bruins seek their first victory over USC since 2021, when UCLA swept three races against the Trojans.
