UCLA Rowing to Undergo Leadership Change

LOS ANGELESย โ The UCLA women's rowing program will be under new leadership in 2025-26, as head coach Previn Chandraratna has resigned to pursue other professional opportunities.

"I'd like to thank Dan Guerrero, Martin Jarmond and Amy Fuller-Kearney for providing me with the opportunity to return to my hometown for the last 10 years," Chandraratna said. "I've been honored to lead these resilient women of Westwood. I have been extremely grateful to have this chapter in my life, and I'm excited for the road ahead. I've poured my heart and soul into UCLA Rowing, through significant challenges and memorable moments, and I will never forget the journey."

Chandraratna spent the last four years as UCLA's head coach, preceded by roles as associate head coach and assistant coach. Under his leadership, the Bruins' varsity eight crew registered wins over USC in three consecutive seasons and defeated multiple top-20 ranked programs. As the Bruins' head coach, Chandraratna raised the program to as high as No. 16 in the CRCA national weekly rankings.

While serving as UCLA's associate head coach, Chandraratna had overseen all of the program's recruiting efforts and coached the second varsity eight. During the pandemic-altered season in 2020-21, UCLA rose to as high as No. 14 in the CRCA national rankings. He was hired at UCLA as an assistant coach prior to the 2015-16 season.

"I would like to thank Previn for his commitment and service to our rowing program," said Martin Jarmond, UCLA's Alice and Nahum Lainer Family Director of Athletics. "He stepped up and played a major role during a challenging stretch as we navigated two pandemic-altered seasons. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors."
