Four UCLA Softball Players Named NFCA All-Americans

May 28, 2025 | Softball

LOUISVILLE, Ky. โ€“ Four student-athletes on the UCLA softball team โ€“ Megan Grant, Jordan Woolery, Savannah Pola and Taylor Tinsley โ€“ were named 2025 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Americans, it was announced by the committee Wednesday afternoon. Junior sluggers Grant (At-Large, 1B) and Woolery (3B) were both selected as First Team All-Americans.
ย
Senior Savannah Pola (At Large, 2B) and junior Taylor Tinsley (P) were named All-Americans for the first time in their careers, both being awarded Third Team.
ย
UCLA's four All-Americans are tied for most in NCAA Division I this season with Southeastern Conference champion Oklahoma. UCLA now owns the all-time lead with 116 NSCA/NFCA All-America citations, besting Arizona's 114.
ย
There were 54 total student-athletes from 33 different universities voted to the NFCA Division I All-America teams this season. UCLA was the only program with three All-Americans in its infield.
ย
This awards cycle marked the 15th time in program history that four or more Bruins were named All-Americans in one season, most recently being accomplished in 2023.
ย
Megan Grant, First Team (At-Large 1B)
Grant, now a two-time All-American, has been one of the most powerful hitters in college softball this season, ranking fourth in NCAA DI with 25 home runs, sixth with 79 runs batted in and ninth with a .943 slugging percentage. Grant's 25 home runs are second-most in UCLA single-season history and are currently tied for the Big Ten single-season record. Thirty-eight of Grant's 61 base hits this season have been for extra bases (62.3%).
ย
Earlier this season, Grant tied Stacey Nuveman (1999) as the fastest Bruins to reach 20 home runs, both needing only 42 games played. Grant's home runs have come in bunches, recording two separate stretches of five straight games and four straight games with homer. From April 4-11, Grant had a four-game hot streak with three grand slams.
ย
She is also enjoying the best batting average of her career with a .384 mark (61-for-159). Perhaps most impressive, Grant has only struck out nine times in 213 plate appearances this season (4.2% strikeout rate).
ย
Jordan Woolery, First Team (3B)
Woolery, a two-time All-American, enters the Women's College World Series this week (May 29-June 5/6) as the nation's leader in runs batted in with 86. She needs five more to tie Stacey Nuveman (1999, 91 RBI) for the program single-season record. Woolery also ranks in the NCAA top-10 in home runs (7th, 23 HR) and total bases (3rd, 173 TB).
ย
Woolery delivered UCLA's biggest hit of the season in game two of the Columbia Super Regional at South Carolina last week. On the brink of elimination, UCLA trailed 4-3 and was down to its final out of the season in the bottom of the seventh. Woolery hammered a first-pitch offering from South Carolina's newly-entered reliever for a 2-run walk-off home run to left field to force an "if necessary" game three. Woolery's blast capped a four-run rally and surmounted a three-run deficit, marking the largest seventh-inning postseason comeback in program history. Woolery drove in the Bruins' first two runs of game three, and UCLA went on to win 5-0 to punch its ticket back to OKC.
ย
Woolery is having a career year in 2025 with bests in batting average (.415), slugging percentage (.896), on-base percentage (.504) and home runs (23).
ย
Savannah Pola, Third Team (At-Large 2B)
Pola is enjoying a renaissance campaign in her final season in Westwood. She leads the team with a .440 batting average (96-for-218), 96 base hits, 73 runs scored and 33 multi-hit performances. Pola ranks third in the country with 96 hits and fourth with 73 runs scored entering the WCWS.
ย
The Santa Ana, Calif. product ranks second in UCLA single-season history with 73 runs scored and needs two more to tie UCLA Athletic Hall of Famer Natasha Watley's program record of 75 set in 2001. Additionally, Pola's 20 doubles are second-best and her 96 hits are fifth-best in UCLA's annals
ย
Pola has more than tripled her hit production from last season after hitting for a .241 batting average (28-for-116) as a junior.
ย
Defensively, Pola has yet to commit and error thanks to her stellar play over 40 starts at second base (151 TC).
ย
Taylor Tinsley, Third Team (P)
Tinsley leads UCLA's pitching staff this season with a 2.42 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, 8.26 K/BB and 8.6 K/7. She also paces the team with 12 quality starts in the circle (min. 5.0 IP, max 2 ER allowed). Most recently, Tinsley earned the Super Regional-clinching save after 1.2 innings of shutout relief in game three at South Carolina to help the Bruins advance to the WCWS.
ย
Tinsley was named one of media outlet Softball America's "Stars of the Week" following her dominant performance versus then-No. 21 Ohio State on April 5. Tinsley tossed a one-hit complete-game shutout and struck out 10 against the Buckeyes. Her gem marked the first time Ohio State, the nation's home runs and runs scored leader, had been blanked in a game this season.

UCLA Begins Play at the WCWS
No. 9-seeded UCLA opens the Women's College World Series this Thursday, May 29 versus Big Ten Conference foe and No. 16 seed Oregon at 6:30 p.m. (PT)/8:30 p.m. (CT) at Devon Park in Oklahoma City, Okla. The contest will be televised on ESPN2.
