Four Softball Players Named to All-Big Ten First Team

May 09, 2025 | Softball

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Four student-athletes on the No. 9-ranked UCLA softball team were named to the All-Big Ten First Team, it was announced by the conference office Friday. The Bruins selected include juniors Megan Grant, Taylor Tinsley and Jordan Woolery and senior Savannah Pola.

UCLA pitcher Addisen Fisher and outfielder Rylee Slimp were also named to the league's All-Freshman Team. Pola was selected as UCLA's Sportsmanship Award honoree, which is given to one member from each program for demonstrating good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting and their success in the classroom.

Grant and Woolery have now been named to First Team all-conference in all three years at UCLA (two All-Pac-12). This marks Tinsley's second straight First Team recognition. Pola received her third all-league selection and was named to the First Team for the first time in her four-year career (All-Pac-12 Third Team in 2022 and 2023).

Grant has put together one of the most dominant single-season hitting performances in UCLA history. The San Bruno, Calif. native entered this week's Big Ten Tournament ranking fourth in the nation in runs batted in (73) and fifth in home runs (23) and slugging percentage (1.000). Grant's 73 RBIs are third-best in UCLA single-season history while her 23 homers are fourth. She also owns a career-best .393 batting average (53-for-135) with 35 of her 53 hits going for extra bases (66.0%). Perhaps most impressive, Grant has only struck out five times in 180 plate appearances this season (2.8% strikeout rate).

Earlier this season, Grant was named back-to-back NFCA National Player of the Week in mid-April when she went on a remarkable stretch with seven homers, including three grand slams.

Woolery has been just as impressive as Grant with a .414 batting average (70-for-169) with 20 home runs and 74 runs batted in. Woolery leapfrogged Grant into a tie for second on UCLA's single-season RBI list. The two Bay Area native bombers make up just the second duo in UCLA history to each hit 20-plus home runs in a single season. Woolery also ranks top 15 nationally in home runs, RBIs and total bases.

Pola is enjoying career bests across the board in her final year in Westwood. The Santa Ana, Calif. product leads the team with a .437 batting average (83-for-190), 83 base hits and 65 runs scored while ranking second with 47 runs batted in. Pola entered the week ranking top 5 in NCAA Division I in both hits and runs scored. Pola has also hit for pop, totaling 30 extra-base hits with nine home runs, 17 doubles and four triples. Defensively, Pola has sported a flawless 1.000 fielding percentage in her 32 starts at second base.

Tinsley leads UCLA staff this season with 12 quality starts, a 0.91 WHIP, 8.9 K/7 and 1.01 BB/7 in addition to registering a 2.55 earned run average, 12-4 record and 140 strikeouts over 109.2 innings. Tinsley was named as one of five "Stars of the Week" by media outlet Softball America on April 7 following her dominant performance versus then-No. 21 Ohio State on April 5. Tinsley tossed a one-hit, complete game shutout and struck out 10 against the Buckeyes. Her gem marked the first time Ohio State, the nation's home runs leader, had been shut out in a game this season. The one hit allowed was also the Buckeyes' fewest in a game.
