Men's Tennis Adds German National Champion Reinhard

LOS ANGELES โ€“ Former German national champion Bengt Reinhard has signed a grant-in-aid to attend UCLA, men's tennis head coach Billy Martin announced Tuesday. Reinhard will join the Bruins as a freshman for 2025-26.

A native of Fulda, Germany, Reinhard swept his home country's singles and doubles national titles for the 14-and-under age division. He went on to achieve runner-up status in each for the 16-and-under category. Reinhard also helped Germany's 16-and-under team earn a finalist spot at the 2023 Tennis Europe Winter Cups event in Marcq-en-Baroeul, France.

"I am super excited to have Bengt Reinhard joining our team this coming fall," said Martin. "He is a young German that I've been able to follow for quite a few years. I had Leo von Bismarck, one of his good friends on the team, also recommending Bengt to be a great team member for us.

"There are a lot of great Germans playing college tennis, with Pepperdine in particular having three really good Germans playing for them. I can kind of gauge where he ranks with those players, so we know we're getting a good player that can play both singles and doubles."

Reinhard is also a veteran of the ITF Futures circuit. He claimed the J60 Frankfurt singles crown in 2024 and subsequently climbed to his career-high ITF junior ranking of 232. That kicked off a year that saw the 5-11 right-hander tally singles ranking points at the J60 Schifflange (runner-up finish), J100 Verbier (quarterfinals) and J200 Rutesheim (round of 16) events.

On the doubles side, Reinhard and partner Kieven Mietusch picked up the J100 Verbier crown in 2024. Reinhard also teamed with Niels McDonald to claim the J60 Offenbach championship earlier that year while collecting points at the J100 Barcelona (semifinals), J100 Hannover (semifinals) and J200 Rutesheim (quarterfinals) tournaments.

Reinhard joins UC Irvine transfer Andy Nguyen on Martin's list of newcomers for 2025-26. Cassius Chinlund, originally part of the high school class of 2025, enrolled at UCLA early before sitting out the 2024-25 campaign.
