Jake Palmer Promoted to Assistant Coach

LOS ANGELES - ย Jake Palmer has been elevated to a full-time assistant coaching role within the UCLA baseball program, head coachย John Savageย announced on Tuesday.

Palmer has been a member of the UCLA baseball staff for three seasons, beginning as a graduate manager in the 2023 season before ascending into his role as the Director of Player Development in 2024.

"Jake knows our program very well. Having played at UCLA and being part of our staff the last few years as our Director of Player Development," Savage said. "Jake is very knowledgeable and has a great presence about him. He is going to be an outstanding coach in our system."

Coming to Westwood as a graduate transfer in 2022, Palmer made an immediate impact at UCLA, earning Pac-12 All-Conference honors while serving as the Bruins' everyday first baseman. He posted a .296/.430/.371 slash line and was one of only two players to start every game that season. In Pac-12 play, Palmer led the team in both batting average (.345) and on-base percentage (.468), and he reached base in a program-best 41 straight games between March 5 and May 19. Following the season, he signed with the New York Yankees as an undrafted free agent and hit .300 during his stint in rookie ball.
"I couldn't be more excited for my new role with the program," Palmer said. "Being a Bruin comes with great pride. I look forward to striving towards the program standard on a daily basis."

Before joining UCLA, Palmer spent four standout seasons at UC Irvine, compiling a .307/.446/.380 slash line across 145 games. He maintained an OBP above .430 in each of those years and twice earned Big West All-Conference recognition. Palmer is a native of El Segundo, Calif.
