September 06, 2025 | Men's Golf
SAMMAMISH, Wash. – The UCLA men's golf team recorded a third-place finish at the two-day Sahalee Players Championship over the weekend, shooting 9-over 873 through all three rounds.
UCLA finished at 1-under 287 in the third and final round on Sunday to move into third place on the 12-team leaderboard. The Bruins recorded a finish of 8-over 296 in round one on Saturday and 2-over 290 in the second round on Saturday.
Bruins' senior Kyle An shot 2-under 70 on the final day of action to move into a tie for ninth place among the individual leaderboard. An logged his third career top-10 finish, having posted a pair of top 10s as a junior in 2024-25. He concluded the weekend carding 1-over 217.
In all, UCLA had four golfers who finished among the top 20 on the individual leaderboard. Joining An in that category included junior Alex Papayoanou (T-11th), sophomore Baylor Larrabee (T-13th) and sophomore Logan Kim (T-17th). Freshman Tyler Loree finished in a tie for 50th place at 14-over 230.
"I am really proud the way that the guys played this weekend," said head coach Armen Kirakossian, who enters his fourth year as UCLA's head coach. "Like I said before the tournament, when two top 10 PGA Tour U guys graduate, with Omar and Pablo, those are some big shoes for us to fill. It's a credit to our guys, as they really stepped up. This was a big team effort to have four guys who finished within the top 20. To see our senior Kyle An finish in ninth place, within the top 10, it made for a good all-around effort from everybody. That kind of consistency is what led us to finish in third place against a stacked field. I'm also proud of how our guys came out, ready to go, coming off a few practices since we are on the quarter system and things do back up. We got turned around quickly. And we got up here to play on a championship golf course against a very elite field. We are excited for what's to come."
Kim and Papayoanou had particularly strong efforts in the third round on Sunday. Kim shot 1-under 71 on Sunday at Sahalee Country Club, while Papayoanou finished at even par (72). Papayoanou shot 2-over 218 through all three rounds, finishing the weekend in a tie for 11th place.
Larrabee posted round-by-round scores of 73-72-74, finishing in a tie for 13th place. That marked his second career top-15 finish, having recorded a ninth-place finish as a freshman last season in a fall competition at The Preserve Golf Club Collegiate (Carmel, Calif.).
Arizona State won the tournament title, shooting 3-over 867. Texas finished second to Arizona State, carding 4-over 868. The Bruins (+9, 873) bested the U.S. National Development Program (+15, 879) and San Diego State (+18, 882) in the top five spots.
The Bruins will return to action in Utah on Monday, Sept. 15 and Tuesday, Sept. 16, competing at The Wohali (at the Wohali Golf Club in Coalville, Utah). The Wohali will mark UCLA's second of four fall golf tournaments.
