BRUINS BEGIN BIG TEN PLAY
No. 18 UCLA (3-2-1) will kick off conference play this week with home matches against two unbeaten Big Ten foes in Purdue (6-0-1) and No. 4 Michigan State (4-0-2). The UCLA-Purdue match will take place on Thursday, Sept. 10 at 7pm, and the UCLA-Michigan State match will kick off at 1pm on Sunday, Sept. 13. Michigan State and UCLA were selected 1-2 in the preseason Big Ten preseason coaches poll.
UCLA IN THE BIG TEN
UCLA enters its third season in the Big Ten with a 14-3-5 all-time conference record. In year one in 2024, the Bruins finished second in the regular season with a 8-1-2 record and swept through the conference tournament, allowing zero goals in three games and setting a championship record with five goals in the title match against against Rutgers. The Bruins went 6-2-3 in conference play in 2025 and finished third in the regular season and tournament.
SCOUTING THE BOILERMAKERS
Purdue enters the week with a 6-0-1 record, going unbeaten in non-conference play for the first time since 2000. The Boilermakers have outscored their opponents 34-2 this season. Three Purdue players rank amongst the Top 5 in the Big Ten in scoring. Jaiden Anderson leads all conference players with seven goals and 16 points. McKenzie Carle ranks third in points with 12 (5g, 2a), and Megan Santa Cruz is fourth with 11 points (4g, 3a). Goalkeeper Krystina Wolf leads the Big Ten in goals against average with a microscopic 0.18 GAA. Purdue went 6-10-3 a year ago.
THE SERIES WITH PURDUE
UCLA is 1-0 against Purdue all-time, winning the only matchup in the series, 2-0, at Purdue on Sept. 22, 2024. Paloma Daubert and Avery Robinson are the only current Bruins who played in that game.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
Michigan State ranks No. 5 in the nation with a 4-0-2 record. The Spartans are coming off a dramatic 2-2 tie at Notre Dame, where a goal by Ella Janz with four seconds remaining saved Michigan State from its first loss of the year. The Spartans have three players on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List - Kennedy Bell, Kayla Briggs, and Emerson Sargeant. The trio lead the team in scoring, with Bell, the 2025 Big Ten Forward of the Year, netting three goals and eight points. Michigan State is coming off a 15-4-6 record and NCAA quarterfinal appearance last season.
THE SERIES WITH MICHIGAN STATE
Michigan State leads the all-time series with UCLA, 1-0-1. The teams faced each other twice in 2025, with the teams tying 1-1 in the regular season and the Spartans besting the Bruins in overtime in the Big Ten semifinals, 2-1. Kara Croone scored the tying goal in the regular season matchup. Emerson Sargeant had the tying and winning goals for Michigan State in the tournament game.
IN THE RANKINGS
UCLA moved up two spots to No. 16 in the IWSOC Coaches poll. The Bruins will be facing their third Top 5 opponent on Sunday when they play No. 5 Michigan State. UCLA played No. 1 Stanford and No. 3 Duke in August. No. 6 Ohio State looms next week.

The junior from Monterrey is making her second career FIFA Under-20 World Cup appearance.
