UCLA Outlasts Maryland, 67-55

January 10, 2026 | Men's Basketball

LOS ANGELES โ€“ The UCLA men's basketball team defeated Maryland, 67-55, in a Big Ten contest inside Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom Financial on Saturday evening.
ย
The Bruins (11-5, 3-2 Big Ten) used a huge surge over the final 13 minutes of the first half to pull away early, and held on down the stretch, as three Bruins finished in double figures. Trent Perry led the way with 16 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. Eric Dailey Jr. added 15 points and nine rebounds, while Tyler Bilodeau chipped in with 10 points.

The Terrapins (7-9, 0-5 Big Ten) cut the lead to as few as five points, 56-51, before the Bruins pulled away for the win. A huge 6-0 run for the Bruins made what was a five-point lead an 11-point lead, 62-51, with 4:08 left in the game when Steven Jamerson II finished down low for the Bruins. UCLA saw out the win from there, earning a 67-55 win on Saturday night.
ย
Maryland out-rebounded the Bruins on Saturday, 48-29, securing 20 offensive rebounds.
ย
"Obviously, we need rebounding drills," said Mick Cronin, The Michael Price Family UCLA Men's Head Basketball Coach. "But, we can't practice because there are too many guys hurt. We couldn't really do box out drills the last two days because we already got two guys out, and boxing out the pad doesn't help. We've got to box out live to simulate what Maryland does with their offensive rebounding. If we could rebound, we'd win by 30 โ€“ they wouldn't have got to 40. Pretty simple. That being said, made some adjustments defensively, did a much better job of defense. They shot 30 percent from the field. And that's worth getting 20 second chances."

Maryland clawed its way back into the game and cut UCLA's lead to single digits, at 54-46, with 7:12 remaining in the game. The Terrapins got within five points of UCLA, at 56-51, before Perry cashed in a corner 3-point basket for the Bruins to put UCLA on top, 59-51, with just under six minutes remaining.

Capitalizing off one Maryland turnover, the Bruins pushed the pace, and Dent finished at the rim to put UCLA in front by 15 points, 52-37, with 9:23 left in the game.

Dailey Jr. connected from the baseline to put the Bruins on top of Maryland, 44-30, with 13 minutes remaining in the contest. Xavier Booker connected from 3-point range, pushing the Bruins' margin up to 16 points, at 48-32, with 10:40 to play.
ย
UCLA closed the first half on a 29-7 scoring run over the final 13:39. The Bruins led the game at halftime, 38-21. UCLA had limited the visiting Terrapins to 9-for-30 shooting from the field (30%), while shooting 52 percent from the field as a team.

The Bruins forced 10 turnovers in the opening half and committed just one. In addition, UCLA had 12 points off Maryland turnovers and the Terrapins had none.

A 16-0 Bruins' scoring run put UCLA up 34-19 with 4:40 left in the half. Dailey Jr. capped the lengthy scoring run with an emphatic dunk off the dish from Dent, before Perry made a pull-up jumper and Dailey Jr. added a layup to cap the run.

Jamar Brown made it a 14-5 run for the Bruins when he cashed in a corner 3-pointer, putting UCLA up 21-19. He followed that with a layup, and Perry added another score to put the Bruins ahead, 25-19, with 7:41 to play before the intermission.

The Bruins responded and Bilodeau connected down low to tie the game at 14-14 with 11 minutes to go in the opening half. Perry then put the Bruins up 17-16 with 10:16 left in the half when he connected from 3-point distance.
ย
Dailey Jr. hit a triple to tie the game at 9-9 early on. Dailey Jr. finished the opening half with a team-leading nine points. Maryland instantly responded on the other end with a triple of their own before extending the lead to 14-9 with 13:39 left in the half.

UP NEXT FOR THE BRUINS:ย UCLA hits the road next week to take on Penn State on Wednesday, Jan. 14. Tip-off is set for 5:30 pm (PT), with the Bruins' game being nationally televised on FS1. The will mark the Bruins' first-ever clash with the Nittany Lions at Penn State (in men's basketball).ย
