LA JOLLA, Calif. – No. 3 UCLA (3-0, 0-0 MPSF) opened the Triton Invitational with a 22-4 shellacking of Cal State Fullerton on Friday morning at Canyonview Aquatic Center on the campus of UC San Diego. The Bruins scored the first seven goals of the game, pitched a shutout in the first period, and were never threatened in the contest. UCLA improved to 2-0 against the Titans in the series history.

A total of 12 different Bruins scored against CS Fullerton (5-2), paced by a season-high four goals from redshirt sophomore Dania Innis, who also drew five exclusions and two penalties. Five other Bruins scored multiple goals in the game, including hat tricks from seniors Taylor Smith and Bia Mantellato. Senior Zoë Frangieh, junior Elektra Urbatsch, and redshirt freshman Ana Pieper (tied career high) all scored two goals apiece against the Titans.

Junior Lauren Steele got the start in the cage and played the first half, tallying six saves to go with two steals while allowing just one goal. Junior Joey Niz played the second half, also tallying six saves and a steal while surrendering the other three scores.

The Bruins led wire-to-wire, leading 7-0 at the end of the first and 12-1 at halftime. UCLA won the third period, 4-1, to build a 16-2 lead heading into the final stanza. The Bruins won the fourth quarter, 6-2, to provide the 22-4 final.

The Bruins will face the winner of No. 6 Arizona State and No. 18 Michigan on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 10:40 a.m. PT in the quarterfinals at Canyonview Aquatic Center.
