February 01, 2026 | Women's Basketball
LOS ANGELES – No. 2-ranked UCLA downed No. 8 Iowa, 88-65, in front of the home crowd on Sunday. The Bruins improve to 21-1, 11-0 in B1G play with the win.
Graduate forward Angela Dugalić led all scorers with 22 points, tying her career high in the top 10 victory. She was 9-of-13 from the field, 3-for-4 from distance, and had a career-high five steals.
UCLA shot 57.8 percent in the win, making half of its 3-point attempts (6-12 3FG) and all of its free throws (8-8 FT) against the Hawkeyes. The Bruins had 56 points in the paint to Iowa's 26 and assisted on 29 of their 37 made baskets.
Five Bruins got into double figures on Sunday: Dugalić (22), Kiki Rice (17), Lauren Betts (16), Gianna Kneepkens (10) and Charlisse Leger-Walker (10).
Rice, who had seven assists in the win, eclipsed 100 assists on the year for the fourth-consecutive season; she became the fifth Bruin in UCLA history to have four seasons of 100+ assists, joining the ranks of Ann Meyers, Erica Gomez, Nikki Blue, and Jordin Canada.
Leger-Walker worked a Lauren Betts screen to sneak a layup past the Hawkeyes to open the scoring for the Bruins. The center backed down her defender to get a fadeaway off the glass for her first basket. Leger-Walker came up with a steal off an errant handle by the Hawkeyes; she slowed the pace for a beat before finding Rice, who drove to the basket and drew two. The point guard then hit Dugalić for a layup. Lauren Betts got another bucket in the post before Leger-Walker made her way to the cup for her second layup. Dugalić converted an and-one after being fouled on her floater in transition just before the midway point of the first. Out of the media break, Rice hunted a Sienna Betts screen and connected on a side-stepping jumper.
Dugalić backed down Iowa's Hannah Stuelke, losing her with a post spin for a strong layup. Sienna Betts locked down on the other end, forcing a Hawkeye travel in the paint.
The Bruins led by four, 17-13, at the end of one.
Leger-Walker scored first for the Bruins in the second; she got to the hoop off a rip through and finished with her left off the glass. Rice was next, getting downhill on the break after a long rebound on defense. Leger-Walker connected on a midrange jump shot following a dribble handoff from Lauren Betts. The center then backed down her defender for another post score.
Dugalić caught an elbow to the throat from Stuelke; Rice hit both free throws and swung it to Dugalić who found Gabriela Jaquez for another Bruin bucket with the extra possession. Rice found an open lane for a layup on the next trip. Sienna Betts flipped the ball to a rising Dugalić for a triple; UCLA's first-half lead grew to 13 off the make. Kneepkens drove the baseline and pulled two defenders, leaving Sienna Betts open for a drop off and layup on the left side of the basket.
UCLA waited on the final possession to get one look without the shot clock. Leger-Walker attacked the left lane but ran into the Hawkeye backline; after bobbling the ball, she found Kneepkens in the corner for a buzzer-beating 3-pointer.
The Bruins led 39-28 at the break.
Rice scored first out of the half, shaking her defender and sped to the left side of the hoop for a layup. Lauren Betts got active in the paint for a score before Rice finished a difficult lefty layup. Lauren Betts decided to battle down low for a short shot off the glass and another made jumper. Leger-Walker rejected her screen at the top of the key, changing pace for a slow step and layup. Lauren Betts got back to the left block for her third basket of the quarter, spinning past her defender at the cup.
Dugalić took the ball up the court and got to the right block for a quick post-up and lay in. Sienna Betts shimmied and powered through contact for an and-one opportunity at the media break; the younger Betts put UCLA up 18 after the make out of the timeout. Dugalić posted on the right block following Sienna Betts' make, getting a step-through layup to fall. Lauren Betts got another look at a fadeaway jumper, knocking down the 10 footer. Dugalić fought through contact to get another paint touch to go, forcing the Hawkeyes to call timeout late in the third.
The Bruins led 62-45 heading into the final frame.
Jaquez navigated heavy traffic to get an acrobatic look at the rim for UCLA's first score of the fourth. She got a pair of free throws to fall a minute later.
Rice got working off a sideline inbounds that turned into a side-step three. Jaquez got in a passing lane for a steal, found Rice who pushed it ahead to Kneepkens in transition. The Rice-Kneepkens connection remained strong; the point guard hit the transfer in the corner for three on a baseline out-of-bounds play. Dugalić kept her scoring going; the Serbian senior national team member faded to the three-point line while Rice drove; the point guard whipped a pass to the graduate forward for a triple. Kneepkens connected on a jumper to get into double figures; the graduate transfer then led a pick-and-roll with Lauren Betts, finding the center for a finish at the rim. Dugalić tied her career high with her final 3-pointer of the night, and Sienna Betts finished at the rim with some fancy footwork for the final basket.
UCLA closed out the top 10 battle with a 23-point advantage.
