No. 1 UCLA Mashes Five Homers in 12-5 Win Over No. 20 Tennessee
February 27, 2026 | Baseball
ย
The Bruins (7-2) were powered once again by Will Gasparino, who delivered his third multi-homer game of the season and moved into the national lead with eight home runs. Roman Martin added a momentum-shifting three-run shot in the seventh for his first of the year, while Mulivai Levu crushed a two-run homer in the third and Payton Brennan followed with an opposite-field solo blast, his second of the season.
ย
On the mound, Logan Reddemann (3-0) turned in another steady outing, working a season-high 5.1 innings with seven strikeouts. He exited having allowed just one earned run, though both inherited runners later scored to give him three earned on the day.
ย
Cashel Dugger chipped in a two-hit, two-RBI performance, and Roch Cholowsky went 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored.
ย
Aiden Aguayo recorded a knock and reached base three times while Aidan Espinoza came off the bench to notch a base hit in the ninth.
ย
Dugger put UCLA on the board in the second, lacing a double into the left-center gap that brought Aiden Aguayo around to score from first base, giving the Bruins the early edge.
ย
UCLA padded its lead in the third after Cholowsky ripped a two-out double down the left-field line, setting up Levu, who followed by unloading a no-doubt homer to right for a 3-0 cushion.
ย
The Bruins struck again in the fourth when Brennan launched a 443-foot opposite-field blast to make it 4-0. The advantage grew to five in the fifth after Cholowsky lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home Dominic Cadiz from third base.
ย
Tennessee answered in the sixth, scoring four runs on four hits to claw within one run.
ย
UCLA replied decisively with a six-run seventh that broke the game open. Gasparino ignited the rally by launching a 440-foot solo shot to center, and after Dean West was hit by a pitch and Levu singled to left, Roman Martin delivered the big swing of the inning with a towering three-run homer. The momentum kept rolling as Brennan and Aguayo reached for Dugger, who shot a single up the middle that brought in both runners after an errant throw from the outfield.
ย
The outburst pushed the Bruins' lead to 11-4.
ย
The Volunteers scratched across a run in the seventh and threatened again in the eighth, but closer Easton Hawk stepped in and shut the door, recording two strikeouts to end the inning and halt the rally.
ย
UCLA added on, as Will Gasparino added his second homer of the night with a towering shot to left that provided one final insurance run. Easton Hawk then sealed the 12-5 victory by working a clean ninth, closing out the Bruins' seventh win of the season.
ย
UCLA returns to Globe Life Field tomorrow at 5 p.m. PT to face No. 23 Texas A&M in game two of the weekend, with coverage available on FloSports.
