No. 1 UCLA Takes Series-Opener Over Michigan, 10-5
March 13, 2026 | Baseball
LOS ANGELES – The No. 1-ranked UCLA baseball team opened its weekend series with a 10-5 win over Michigan on Friday night at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
The Bruins (15-2, 4-0 Big Ten) pushed their winning streak to nine games and remained unbeaten in conference play. All nine starters recorded a hit, with Roch Cholowsky and Will Gasparino leading the charge, with each finishing with three hits and two RBIs.
Roman Martin and Cashel Dugger added two hits apiece, while Payton Brennan drove in a pair of runs in a 1-for-4 effort. Mulivai Levu scored twice and added a hit, and both Dominic Cadiz and Phoenix Call contributed a knock to keep the bottom of the order productive.
On the mound, Logan Reddemann (5-0) delivered another standout performance, earning his fifth win in as many starts. The right-hander struck out seven and allowed just two runs over six innings, matching his longest outing of the season.
Michigan struck first in the opening frame, as Colby Turner lifted a two-run homer to give the Wolverines an early edge.
UCLA answered immediately, erupting for four runs in the bottom half to take control. Dean West legged out an infield single, Levu was hit by a pitch, and Martin followed with a single to center. Brennan brought home the first run with a sacrifice fly, and a balk moved both runners into scoring position. Gasparino capitalized with a two-run single to center, and with two outs, Cadiz hammered a double into the left-center gap to score Gasparino and cap the four-run inning.
The Bruins blew the game open in the fourth, batting around and scoring six times to stretch the lead to eight. Dugger was hit by a pitch to start the frame, and Call followed with a fly ball to right that was lost in the lights and dropped for a double. With two outs, Cholowsky punched a two-run single to center, Levu added an RBI single through the right side, and Martin and Brennan delivered back-to-back run-scoring hits. After a walk to Gasparino, Dugger dropped a double down the left-field line to drive in two more and finish the six-run outburst.
Both teams went scoreless over the next four innings, with Ian May providing two strong frames of relief, allowing no runs and striking out two.
Michigan mounted a late push in the ninth, drawing three straight walks to load the bases. Another walk forced in a run, and a pair of singles plated two more, but Easton Hawk shut the door by recording the final two outs to secure the 10-5 victory.
The Bruins continue their series with Michigan on Saturday at 2 p.m. PT at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Live coverage will be available on B1G+.
