March 14, 2026 | Women's Water Polo
LOS ANGELES โ The second-ranked UCLA women's water polo team rolled to a 19-5 victory against No. 18 San Jose State in MPSF action Saturday at Spieker Aquatics Center. The game was UCLA's second of a three-in-four-days stretch at home.
Emma Lineback, Bia Mantellato and Anna Pearson all notched hat tricks for the Bruins (14-2, 3-1 MPSF), who went 10 for 13 on power plays. Adding two-goal performances to the cause were Dania Innis, Genoa Rossi, Taylor Smith and Elektra Urbatsch. Joey Niz surrendered two goals and made 10 saves across three quarters. The Spartans (6-12, 0-5) were led by Darcy Spark's three goals. Tatiana Raffin and Larke Eslinger of SJSU combined for six saves.
Lineback, who also had a hat trick in Thursday's win versus Princeton, wasted no time netting her first Saturday (7:35). The Spartans converted a penalty shot 28 seconds later, but it was all UCLA from there. Pearson, Mantellato (twice) and Lineback capitalized on power-play opportunities to take a 5-1 lead at the end of one.
The Bruin defense held SJSU scoreless in the second. Mantellato immediately finished out her hat trick (7:44) before Genoa Rossi and Taylor Smith joined the parade. Smith and Pearson would each score twice in the quarter, with Pearson's pair completing another hat trick, helping UCLA to an 11-1 halftime advantage.
Urbatsch scored her two goals in the opening 2:09 of the third quarter. Katherine O'Dea's first at 3:43 extended the Bruins' lead to 14-1. The Spartans answered by making another five-meter chance, putting the score at 14-2 going into the final frame.
Goalkeeper Izzy Rosensitto made her season debut for UCLA in the fourth. Rossi and Dania Innis pushed the lead to 16-2 before Spark scored all three of her goals. Bruin Presley Jones scored her second in as many games, answering Spark's penultimate effort. Innis joined the multi-goal club and Lineback rounded out her hat trick with a last-second conversion.
UCLA finishes out its busy week Sunday, when No. 12 Fresno State pays a visit. The teams' third meeting this season begins at 1 p.m. PT.
