UCLA Sweeps Big Ten Gymnastics Titles for Second Straight Year

Champaign, Ill - No. 5 UCLA won its second consecutive Big Ten Championship, scoring 198.100 to remain unbeaten all-time as a member of the Conference.
Jordan Chiles won the all-around with a conference-record score of 39.825 and scored her seventh perfect 10 of the season on floor exercise to repeat as floor champion. She also won the balance beam title with a 9.950 and tied with teammate Sydney Barros and three others on uneven bars with a 9.950. Sophomore Riley Jenkins tied for the vault title with a career-high 9.950.
Chiles was also voted the Big Ten Gymnast of the Year, and Janelle McDonald was named the Big Ten Coach of the Year for the second-straight season.
UCLA started the meet with a 49.425 on balance beam. Junior Katelyn Rosen returned to the lineup after missing the last two meets and scored a leadoff 9.850, which was matched by Sydney Barros and Mika Webster-Longin. Freshman Tiana Sumanasekera broke the 9.850 streak with a 9.925, and Chiles drilled her routine for a 9.950 to take over the lead on beam. Michigan claimed the first rotation lead with a 49.550 on floor exercise, and Michigan State (49.400) and Minnesota (49.300) were just behind the Bruins.
The Bruins moved into the lead by 0.325 after scoring 49.675 on floor in the second rotation. Chiles made it two-for-two on perfect 10s on floor at the Big Ten Championships, scoring her seventh 10 of the year. Ashlee Sullivan added a 9.950, and Sumanasekera and Webster-Longin each scored 9.925.
UCLA maintained its 0.325 lead over Michigan State after a 49.450 on vault. Riley Jenkins led the Bruins with a career-high 9.950, sticking her Yurchenko 1.5 for the third-straight meet. Chiles added a 9.925, and Webster-Longin stuck her vault for a 9.875.
Closing it out on uneven bars in the final rotation, Sumanasekera led off with a 9.875 to finish with a career-high all-around total of 39.575. Webster-Longin added a 9.900 to finish her day with a 39.550 all-around score. Nola Matthews scored 9.875, followed by a career-best 9.950 from Barros and a 9.850 from Sullivan to guarantee the Bruins' 198 score. Chiles closed it out with a flourish, earning a 9.950 to secure the title for the Bruins.
