ROSEMONT, Ill. – Sophomore infielder Kaniya Bragg on the No. 7 UCLA softball team earned her first career Big Ten Player of the Week award after a stellar start to the Bruins' (27-3, 8-0 Big Ten) series at Rutgers this week.
Bragg's award marks UCLA's conference-leading fourth player of the week honor this season. Senior Jordan Woolery claimed the team's first three.
Bragg reached base and scored in seven of her eight plate appearances in Games 1 and 2 of UCLA's three-game set at Rutgers. The series finale will be played in Piscataway, New Jersey, later today 3 p.m. (PT).
Bragg recorded a career-high four hits and scored four runs – tied for third-most ever in a single game by a Bruin – in a 4-for-4 performance in Game 1. The Garden Grove, California, native also hit two home runs, marking her third career multi-homer game and second this season.
Bragg scored three more runs in Game 2 in 1-for-2 effort that included two walks. Defensively, she helped seal the victory with a 5-4-3 double play.
Bragg has recorded a .458 batting average (44-for-96), 10 home runs and 36 RBIs and started all 30 games at second base to begin her sophomore campaign.
