Crossley, Lutkemeyer Collect Big Ten Year-End Awards
April 22, 2026 | Women's Tennis
ROSEMONT, Ill. โ UCLA's Mayu Crossley and Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer were honored Wednesday by the Big Ten Conference, which announced its year-end women's tennis awards. Crossley was tabbed Freshman of the Year and made the All-Freshman Team, Lutkemeyer was selected a Sportsmanship Honoree and both were voted onto the All-Big Ten First Team.
Lutkemeyer was a unanimous pick to the first team. She also earned the designation in 2024. The sportsmanship award, which is distributed to one player from each member team, is a first for Lutkemeyer. Crossley became the program's first-ever Big Ten Freshman of the Year and was a unanimous selection to the All-Freshman Team.
Crossley, who started her collegiate career by qualifying for the November 2025 NCAA singles tournament, was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week five times. No other player won the award more than three times in 2026. She has been ranked as high as 37th nationally by the ITA for her singles play, logging a 17-3 dual record (playing almost exclusively on Court 2) and a 20-8 overall mark. Both win totals are team highs. Fifteen of Crossley's dual singles victories have come in straight sets and she has won 10 in a row without dropping a set. Crossley is 4-1 against nationally-ranked players during dual competition, beating three top-20 counterparts. She also leads the team with 11 dual doubles wins and 14 total going back to the individual slate of matches.
Lutkemeyer has been a force atop UCLA's singles lineup in 2026, going 12-4. The senior's 8-3 record opposite ranked players has helped her own ranking climb to a career high No. 11 and remain in the top 20 for each of the past five editions. During a stretch from Jan. 31-March 6, she triumphed over No. 67 Monika Ekstrand of Stanford, No. 57 Ziva Falkner of Pepperdine, No. 32 Jana Hossam of USC and No. 17 Maria Sholokhova of Wisconsin consecutively. Lutkemeyer has also proved clutch, posting five clinching victories that are tied for the team lead. This is her latest accolade, as she was named a finalist for the prestigious Universal Tennis Foundation Hurd Awards in March. Lutkemeyer will receive a $40,000 grant from the foundation that supports her transition from college to international competition.
