Corvallis, Ore. - No. 4 UCLA opened up NCAA competition with a first-place finish at the NCAA Corvallis Regional Second Round. The Bruins scored 197.450 to finish ahead of three other Big Ten teams in Minnesota (196.975), Iowa (196.750) and Washington (195.850). UCLA and Minnesota advance to Sunday's Regional Final.

Freshman Tiana Sumanasekera led the Bruins with a career-high all-around total of 39.625 that was good for first place along with teammate Jordan Chiles. Sumanasekera and Chiles also tied for first on floor exercise with scores of 9.950.

The Bruins started the meet on vault and totaled 49.350. Sumanasekera led off with a nearly-stuck Yurchenko full for a 9.875, but a few landing issues kept the scores down. Ashlee Sullivan and Chiles came through, however, with huge vaults, scoring 9.925 and 9.950, respectively. Iowa grabbed the lead with a huge 49.575 on uneven bars, led by Aurelie Tran's perfect 10.

UCLA followed Iowa on bars and started off just as strong as the Hawkeyes. Sumanasekera delivered another stunning leadoff routine, scoring a career-high 9.925 in the leadoff position. Webster-Longin hit for a 9.900, but the Bruins could not maintain momentum and finished with 49.225. The score, however, was enough to move the Bruins into first place with 98.575, just a hair ahead of Iowa, who scored 48.975 on beam for a 98.550 two-event total.

The Bruins had another strong leadoff routine to kick off the third rotation, as Rosen started out on beam with a 9.825. Barros tied her career-high with a 9.900, and Webster-Longin delivered a 9.850. Sumanasekera and Chiles each scored 9.875, as UCLA totaled 49.325 on beam to sustain the lead over Iowa by two-tenths, 147.900-147.700.

Finishing it out on floor exercise needing a first or second-place finish to advance to the next round, the Bruins delivered a meet-high 49.550 to secure first place. Ciena Alipio led off with a 9.850, and Webster-Longin followed up with a career-high-tying 9.925. Barros added a 9.875, and Sumanasekera capped off a big night with a career-best 9.950. Chiles matched her mark with a 9.950.

UCLA will next face No. 5 seed Alabama, No. 12 seed Utah and No. 13 seed Minnesota in the Regional Final on Sunday, April 5 at 5pm PT. Only the top two teams will advance to the NCAA Championships.
