UCLA Wins Corvallis Regional to Advance to NCAA Championships
April 05, 2026 | Gymnastics
Corvallis, Ore. - UCLA won a nail-biter at a loaded NCAA Corvallis Regional Final, scoring 197.725 to qualify for their 38th NCAA Championship. The fourth-seeded Bruins came from behind to claim first place ahead of 13th-seeded and fellow NCAA qualifier Minnesota by one-tenth. No. 12 seed Utah was third with 197.500, and No. 5 seed Alabama placed fourth with 197.175.
UCLA and Minnesota were tied for second place with a 148.100 going into the final rotation, half a tenth behind Utah, who had just pulled into the lead with a 148.150. The Bruins went to floor exercise to execute their most important floor party of the season. After Ciena Alipio led off with a 9.875, the remaining five Bruins all scored 9.900 or better, with Ashlee Sullivan's 9.900 securing the qualification for the Bruins. Jordan Chiles stepped up for the Bruins' final routine with the Regional title in sight. Needing to score over 9.925 to win, Chiles recorded her eighth perfect 10 of the season to secure the victory. ย
The Bruins began the meet on vault and totaled 49.350, good for second place, one-tenth behind Minnesota, who scored 49.450 on floor. Tiana Sumanasekera led off with a 9.850, and Katelyn Rosen scored a season-best 9.900 after sticking her Yurchenko 1.5. The pressure was on when the Bruins had a fall in the three spot, but the back three of the lineup kept on their feet to get UCLA through vault unscathed. Riley Jenkins and Ashlee Sullivan each scored 9.825, and Jordan Chiles finished with a stuck Yurchenko double full that scored 9.950 and earned a 10 from one of the four judges.
UCLA again had an early fall in rotation 2 that it had to overcome, but Nola Matthews immediately followed with a stuck dismount, two days after touching down on her dismount in prelims. Sydney Barros (9.850), Sullivan (9.875) and Chiles (9.900) closed the rotation with ease, leading to a team total of 49.400, which kept the Bruins in second with 98.750, a hair behind Minnesota's 98.825 and just ahead of Alabama's 98.675 and Utah's 98.625.
Balance beam started out strong with a leadoff 9.900 from Rosen. Sydney Barros followed with a 9.825, and Jordis Eichman stepped in for Mika Webster-Longin and scored 9.800 on her first competitive routine since February. Chiles and Ciena Alipio finished the rotation with scores of 9.900 and 9.925, respectively to give UCLA a 49.350. The Bruins caught up with Minnesota, who scored 49.275 on bars, but Utah moved ahead of both after scoring 49.525 on floor.
The Bruins won the meet with a 49.625 on floor, and Minnesota secured their bid with a 49.525 on beam. Utah could not hold its lead after scoring 49.350 on vault.
The Regional Championship was UCLA's 25th all-time and first since 2019.
The Bruins will compete in the NCAA semifinal in Fort Worth, Texas on Thursday, April 16 against Oklahoma, Arkansas and Minnesota. Competing in the other semifinal will be LSU, Stanford, Florida and Georgia. ย
