Levu’s Late Homer Sparks No. 1 UCLA to Series-Opening Win at Michigan State, 4-1
May 01, 2026 | Baseball
EAST LANSING, Mich. – The No. 1-ranked UCLA baseball team used a late surge to take Friday's series opener at Michigan State, scoring four runs over the final two innings to secure a 4-1 win at Jeff Ishbia Field.
The Bruins (41-4, 22-0 Big Ten) were held scoreless through seven before Mulivai Levu delivered the swing of the night, launching a no-doubt two-run homer to put UCLA in front. They added insurance in the ninth, with Cashel Dugger ripping an RBI double and Aiden Aguayo lifting a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to three.
Easton Hawk closed it out in the ninth, finishing a four-out save, his 10th of the season.
UCLA managed just four hits, two of them from Levu, while Payton Brennan and Dugger added one apiece.
On the mound, Wylan Moss was outstanding in his second straight Friday start, working a career-high 6.2 innings and allowing only one run on two hits.
Jake Swenson (2-0) earned the win after stranding a runner in scoring position in the seventh, and Zach Strickland recorded two outs in the eighth before handing the ball to Hawk for the final four.
The game opened with three scoreless innings before the Spartans finally broke through in the fourth, turning a leadoff walk into the game's first run.
The Bruins added insurance in the ninth. Payton Brennan worked a walk, Cashel Dugger drilled a double onto the hill in right to score him from first, and Jarrod Hocking moved Dugger to third before Aiden Aguayo lifted a sacrifice fly to make it 4-1.
Easton Hawk handled the rest, firing a perfect ninth to lock down the series-opening win.
UCLA returns to Jeff Ishbia Field tomorrow at 12:35 p.m. PT for game two of the series. Live coverage will be available on B1G+.
