UCLA Men’s Golf Looks Ahead to NCAA Corvallis Regional
May 15, 2026 | Men's Golf
LOS ANGELES – The UCLA men's golf team will compete at the NCAA Corvallis Regional next week, from Monday, May 18, through Wednesday, May 20, at Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis, Ore.
UCLA will compete as one of 13 programs in the upcoming Corvallis Regional. The other 12 participants include host institution and No. 10-seed Oregon State, along with (1) Arkansas, (2) Texas Tech, (3) Oklahoma, (4) Charlotte, (6) Notre Dame, (7) San Diego, (8) Purdue, (9) Georgia Southern, (11) Liberty, (12) Xavier and (13) Sacramento State.
The men's golf championship field will feature 81 teams and 45 individuals, beginning with regional competition before the championship round gets underway later this month in Carlsbad, Calif. This season's regional field includes six different regionals (May 18-20).
UCLA will be making a quick return to the Pacific Northwest, having recently won the Big Ten Championship at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains, Ore., from May 1-3. Pumpkin Ridge is located nearly 95 miles to the north of Corvallis, Ore.
The Bruins are currently ranked No. 30 in the weekly rankings from Scoreboard (available here). UCLA is seeking its second consecutive trip to Carlsbad, having advanced out of the NCAA Auburn Regional in 2025. One year ago, UCLA finished in fifth place at the Auburn Regional to punch its ticket to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2018.
"We are preparing just like with any other tournament, focusing on our preparation and what we can control," UCLA head coach Armen Kirakossian said. "We want to put ourselves in the best possible position that we can, to have the most success we possibly can and finish atop the leaderboard. That's our approach. We are preparing just like we would for any tournament, thinking about the golf course that lies ahead. We want to get our minds focused on that. Obviously, we have had good vibes in Oregon, so we will try to continue to keep that going. I think that whenever you can win in golf, it helps to build confidence. We've had some momentum building over our last three tournaments, and we will try to continue to build off that. We want to use that to our advantage and go out there and keep things loose and relaxed, like we did with the conference tournament. We'll try to carry that same vibe to the regionals. If we can do that, that will give us the best chance at having the most success possible."
UCLA's trip to Corvallis, Ore., comes nearly two weeks after the Bruins won the Big Ten Championships for the second consecutive season. The Bruins won the team title on Sunday, May 3, and freshman Josh Kim secured his first collegiate medal at the event. Kim, a freshman from Danville, Calif., birdied the 16th and 17th holes in the third round and finished at 1-under 69 (third round) to win the individual title by four strokes. He shot 8-under 202 at the Big Ten Championships.
As a team, UCLA won the tournament title by four strokes (2-over 282). UCLA shot 1-over 281 in the opening round and 11-under 269 in the second round (Saturday, May 2). The Bruins finished the weekend with a team score of 8-under 832, four strokes ahead of second-place Illinois (4-under 836). Illinois had closed the gap on UCLA in the final four holes, but birdies from Kim and sophomore Baylor Larrabee in the final three holes allowed the Bruins to clinch the win.
Kim became UCLA's second golfer in as many seasons to medal at the Big Ten Championships. Last season, then-senior Omar Morales finished in first place on the individual leaderboard to helped UCLA win the 2025 league title.
Tournament Format and History: Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted to determine the 30 qualifying teams and six individuals (not on those qualifying teams) who will compete in the NCAA Championships. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals (not on those teams) will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals (not on those teams).
The low five teams and low individual from each region will qualify for a spot in the championship finals. Thirty teams and six individuals in total will compete in the finals from Friday, May 29 to Wednesday, June 3 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.
This will mark UCLA's third consecutive team NCAA Regional appearance. Last spring, the Bruins finished fifth at the NCAA Auburn Regional to advance into the NCAA championship field for the first time since the 2017-18 season. UCLA finished in a tie for 20th place among 30 teams at the NCAA championship field and did not advance into match play.
UCLA has won two NCAA Championships with the last title coming in 2008. UCLA also won the NCAA title in 1988. The Bruins have won five NCAA Regional Championships – 2003, 2004, 2009, 2011 and 2013.
