No. 1 UCLA Rolls Past Washington 6-1 to Cap Record-Setting Regular Season
May 16, 2026 | Baseball
SEATTLE โ The No. 1-ranked UCLA baseball team cruised to a 6-1 win over Washington to clinch a series victory in Saturday's regular-season finale at Husky Ballpark.
ย
The Bruins (48-6, 28-2 Big Ten) set a new program record for regular-season wins, surpassing the 2019 squad's 47. UCLA will enter the Big Ten Tournament as the No. 1 seed and awaits its opening-round opponent for Friday, May 22.
ย
UCLA won every regular-season series and was the only program in the nation to take at least two of three games each weekend. The Bruins also established a new program record for conference wins. This weekend marked UCLA's first series win in Seattle since 2014.
ย
Roman Martin powered the offense, driving in three runs as part of a four-hit performance, accounting for more than half of UCLA's seven hits. Mulivai Levu, Roch Cholowsky, and Will Gasparino each added a hit to round out the attack.
ย
The pitching staff was dominant, holding Washington to just two hits. Angel Cervantes impressed in the first weekend start of his career, allowing one run over three innings with three strikeouts. Ian May (2-0) followed with three scoreless frames, striking out five and giving up only one hit to earn the win. Cal Randall worked a clean seventh before Zach Strickland handled the final two innings to secure the victory.
ย
UCLA stormed in front during a rainy top of the first, erupting for four runs to seize early control. Aiden Aguayo and Roch Cholowsky opened the inning with back-to-back walks, and Mulivai Levu was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Martin delivered the first blow, ripping a two-run single through the left side. UCLA added another when a wild pitch skipped away from the Washington catcher, allowing Levu to score all the way from second and moving Martin to third. Brennan then brought Martin home with a groundout, capping the four-run frame.
ย
Washington scratched a run across in the second, using two walks and a double, but Cervantes did well to limit the damage, stranding two runners to end the threat.
ย
The Bruins answered in the fifth, when Levu doubled off the wall in left-center and Martin followed by roping a single up the middle for his third hit and third RBI of the day, restoring UCLA's four-run advantage.
ย
UCLA tacked on another run in the eighth when Martin opened the inning with a sharp single to left for his fourth hit of the game, and later came around to score on Cashel Dugger's RBI groundout.
ย
The Bruins will await their quarterfinal opponent for the Big Ten Tournament, with first pitch set for Friday, May 22 at 11 a.m. PT at Charles Schwab Field Omaha. The game will air nationally on Big Ten Network.
