No. 1 UCLA Claims First Big Ten Tournament Title on Call’s 11th-Inning Walk-Off
May 24, 2026 | Baseball
OMAHA, Neb. – The No. 1-ranked UCLA baseball team delivered its third walk-off win in as many days to capture the Big Ten Baseball Tournament title, as Phoenix Call was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the 11th to seal a 3-2 victory over No. 3-seed Oregon on Sunday afternoon at Charles Schwab Field.
The Bruins (51-6, 28-2 Big Ten) captured their first-ever conference tournament title and became the first Big Ten team to sweep both the regular-season and tournament championships since Maryland in 2023.
UCLA trailed by one entering the ninth for the second straight game, and once again Aidan Espinoza delivered the clutch swing. With the Bruins down to their final out, he lined a game-tying RBI single to score Payton Brennan and force extra innings.
Easton Hawk (6-2), who entered in the ninth, fired three consecutive scoreless frames to keep the Ducks (40-16, 20-10) off the board in extras. His work set the stage for UCLA's decisive 11th-inning push, which opened with a Roman Martin single to center.
Brennan followed with another sharp base hit up the middle, and Jarrod Hocking's sacrifice-bunt attempt was thrown to third in an effort to cut down the lead runner, but Martin slid in safely to load the bases. That brought up Call, whose first pitch grazed the bill of his helmet for a hit-by-pitch that forced in the winning run. The play was reviewed and upheld, sealing UCLA's 3-2 walk-off victory.
Roch Cholowsky paced the UCLA offense with three hits, while Brennan turned in an extremely efficient day, going 2-for-2 with a triple while scoring two of the Bruins' three runs.
On the mound, Angel Cervantes shined in his second career weekend start, and first postseason appearance, firing five scoreless innings with four hits allowed and five strikeouts. Ian May added a clean frame, and Landon Stump impressed for the second straight day, tossing two more spotless innings to keep UCLA within striking distance.
UCLA took the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Gasparino ripped a triple into the left-field corner, scoring Payton Brennan from third. On the next play, Gasparino was caught in a rundown between third and home and tagged out; after review, he was ruled for malicious contact and ejected from the game.
After Cervantes departed the contest, Oregon replied with a pair of solo home runs from Burke-Lee Mabeus and Naulivou Lauaki to take the lead in the top of the sixth.
The Bruins needed one run to tie it in the bottom of the ninth, and they delivered. Brennan worked a leadoff walk, Jarrod Hocking dropped down a perfect sacrifice bunt to move him into scoring position, and Espinoza pinch-hitting and down to UCLA's final out came through with a clutch RBI single through the right to score Brennan from second.
The NCAA has announced that UCLA will host the first weekend of postseason of play at Jackie Robinson Stadium for the Los Angeles Regional. This marks the second straight season the Bruins will host an NCAA Regional. UCLA has earned its 27th NCAA Tournament berth and 15th under Head Coach John Savage.
