UCLA at NCAA Outdoor Championships: Day One
June 10, 2026 | Track & Field
EUGENE, Ore. โ Xaver Hastenrath secured First Team All-America status after finishing seventh overall in the shot put to highlight UCLA's first day at the 2026 NCAA Outdoor Championships at Oregon's Hayward Field.
Hastenrath recorded a top mark of 19.24m (63-1.5), accomplished on his second throw, to land the top-eight finish and score two team points for the Bruins.
In so doing, Hastenrath became the first Bruin to score in the shot put at NCAAs since Nicholas Scarvelis was fourth at nationals in 2016. It's the second straight year that a UCLA thrower has scored at NCAAs for the Bruins after Michael Pinckney was the fifth-place finisher in the discus at last year's outdoor championships.
A pair of other Bruins saw their seasons come to an end after failing to advance out of prelims.
Tamaal Myers II was the 18th-place finisher in the men's 400m hurdles with a time of 50.87. Myers previously led all qualifiers in the 400mH prelims at Big Ten Outdoors and set a personal-best at 49.67 en route to a top-10 finish during prelims at NCAA West First Rounds.
Finally, Gabriel Clement II was the 23rd-place finisher in the 400m dash with a time of 46.88. Clement notched a PB in the 400 (45.22) and was a top-10 finisher at Regionals, and also scored in that event during Big Ten Outdoors.
The UCLA women get underway at the NCAA Championships on Thursday. The Bruins have entries in both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays as well as Celeste Polzonetti in the 100m hurdles and Taylor Snaer in the 200m dash semifinals.
