Trio of Bruins Named Postgraduate Scholarship Recipients
June 25, 2026 | Football, Track & Field
A trio of UCLA student-athletes were named recipients of postgraduate scholarships this week, as Jordan Robinson (women's track & field) and Sam Yoon (football) were tabbed by the Big Ten while Gavin Champ (men's track & field) was selected by the NCAA.
The Big Ten recognizes two student-athletes from each of the 18 Big Ten member institutions who plan to continue their education at a graduate degree programs. The recipients will be awarded a $7,500 scholarship, based primarily on academic achievements. Student-athletes must have maintained at least a 3.2 grade-point average (GPA), demonstrated leadership qualities, served as an excellent role model and intended to continue their academic work beyond their baccalaureate degree at a graduate degree program.
Meanwhile, Champ was one of 42 spring sport student-athletes nation-wide to be selected to the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship program. Recipients, who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievements, athletic excellence and leadership within their communities, are awarded $10,000.
Established in 1964, the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship program promotes and encourages graduate education by recognizing the Association's most accomplished student-athletes. The program evaluates candidates on their athletic and academic achievements, campus involvement, community service and leadership. An equitable selection process ensures that all nominees, regardless of sport, division, gender or race, are considered fairly.
Champ joined the Bruins' track & field squad in 2026 for his fourth year of athletic eligibility, earning a top-10 finish in the triple jump at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships. Earlier in his career, Champ was an Indoor All-American at Texas A&M in 2025 and was a Pac-12 silver medalist at USC in 2024. Champ is pursuing his master's degree in public policy at UCLA, and aspires to become a lawyer.
Robinson was a four-year letterwinner at UCLA from 2023-26, qualifying for league championships in each of her first three seasons on campus. Earlier this school year, Robinson was selected as UCLA's female recipient of 2025-26 Big Ten Jackie Robinson Community & Impact Award, handed out annually to student-athletes who have demonstrated impact in their community, collaborated with peers and organizations, been a consistent participant in community service, and have been visible advocates for important groups and causes.
Yoon, a four-year letterwinner on the football team, has been the squad's starting center for the past two seasons. He has started 20 consecutive games for UCLA, the longest active streak on the team among non-specialists. Yoon graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering earlier this month, and intends to earn his Master's in the same discipline.
