June 04, 2026 | Baseball
DALLAS โ UCLA sophomore shortstop Roch Cholowsky has been selected as a Dick Howser Trophy finalist announced today by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). The Dick Howser Trophy is awarded annually to college baseball's top player, as voted on by a national panel of writers, broadcasters, and publicists.
ย
The five finalists are Cholowsky, Louisville sophomore first baseman Tague Davis, UC Santa Barbara junior starting pitcher Jackson Flora, Arizona State sophomore outfielder Landon Hairston and Georgia junior catcher Daniel Jackson.
ย
Cholowsky is a finalist for the award for the second consecutive season. When he was first named a finalist in 2025, he became UCLA's first shortstop to earn that honor in a decade, as David Berg was recognized as a finalist in 2015.
ย
Cholowsky helped propel UCLA to 14 consecutive weeks at No.ย 1 in the NCBWA Top 25 and to the nation's best record at 52-8. The Bruins made history as the first college baseball team in the modern era to go wire-to-wire in the regular season as the nation's top ranked team (D1Baseball and Baseball America).
ย
The consensus All-American from Chandler, Ariz., followed with another standout campaign in 2026, posting 21 home runs, 60 RBIs, a .636 slugging percentage, and a 1.088 OPS for John Savage's Bruins. He now owns 52 career home runs in 178 games, anchoring UCLA lineups that reached back-to-back NCAA Tournaments and the 2025 Men's College World Series.
