Brandt Spectacular In First Team USA Start

June 19, 1999
UCLA righthander Jon Brandt did not allow an earned run in five innings in his first Team USA start. Brandt, facing the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, a single-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, surrendered an unearned run and allowed just three hits and one walk while striking out six. Brandt, who was 7-4 with a 4.21 ERA, allowing just 92 hits in 107 innings while striking out 109, as a sophomore for UCLA in 1999, received a no-decision as Team USA lost the game, which was played on Thursday night at Volcanoes Stadium in Salem, OR, 3-2 in 10 innings.
UCLA left fielder Bill Scott continued his stellar play with Team USA. The wood bats did not stop Scott, as he collected two hits in five at bats. Scott, who batted .380 with 28 home runs and 86 RBI for UCLA as a sophomore in 1999, is tied for the Team USA lead in hits (8). Scott is batting in third spot of the lineup and playing left field.
