Bruins Victorious in First Round

Gainesville, Fla. - In the first round of the NCAA Individual Women's Tennis Championships held at the University of Florida, UCLA's entrants all emerged victorious and advanced to Tuesday's second round.
On the singles side, Annica Cooper, seeded No. 9-16, defeated Andrea Piski of Auburn in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. She will face Aarthi Venkatesan of Georgia in the second round. Also, Amanda Basica swept Maria Widyadharma of Central Florida, 6-3, 6-2, setting up a second round match with the tournament's No. 7 seed, Whitney Laiho of Florida.
Basica and Cooper also teamed up to form the Bruin's entry into the doubles draw, posting a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Houston's Sarah Borwell and Galina Seliounina. Basica and Cooper, seeded No. 5-8, move on to face Ana Friganovic and Joanna Shortall of New Mexico on Tuesday afternoon.
