NCAA Softball Regional Second Round Action from Easton Stadium
May 21, 1999
Los Angeles, CA - In NCAA Softball Regional second round action at UCLA's Easton Softball Stadium, second-seeded Missouri eliminated Alabama by defeating the Crimson Tide 1-0.
Missouri's lone run was generated without the ball leaving the infield. With one out in the fourth inning, left fielder Wendy Harrison hit a bunt single then made her way to third after a stolen base and wild pitch. Another bunt single, this one by Kim Slover, scored Harrison with the winning run.
Alabama pitcher Shelley Laird gave up just those two hits but recorded the loss, bringing her final season record to 21-9.
Missouri pitcher Stephanie Falk (25-12) used a variety of wicked off-speed pitches and a fastball to strike out nine batters and allow just three hits in the shutout.
The Tigers (39-20) advance to the third round of the regional, while Alabama ends its season with a 39-26 record.
