Kevin Daley Transferring to Azusa Pacific
September 9, 1998
LOS ANGELES -- Kevin Daley, a sophomore on last year's UCLA basketball team, is transferring to Azusa Pacific and will be eligible to compete for the Cougars during the upcoming 1998-99 collegiate basketball season.
For Daley, a 6-6, 185-pound forward from Artesia High School, this will be his second transfer. Following his true freshman season of 1995-96, Daley transferred to UCLA from Nevada (Reno) and had to sit out the 1996-97 campaign. Daley will be immediately eligible at APU because the Cougars are an NAIA institution and he will have two years of eligibility.
As a Bruin last season, Daley played in 11 games, averaging 3.8 minutes, 1.5 points and 0.8 rebounds a game. His career and season-highs were nine minutes vs. Alaska-Anchorage, six points vs. CS Fullerton and three rebounds vs. Alaska-Anchorage. While at Nevada-Reno in 1995-96, Daley appeared in 26 games, averaging six minutes, 1.2 points and 0.9 rebounds a contest.
"It's important to me to be able to increase my playing time and continue my education," Daley said. "I have enjoyed my two years at UCLA. But I can transfer to Azusa Pacific and be immediately eligible and not have to sit out another year. I am confident my basketball abilities will earn me more playing time at Azusa."
Bruin head coach Steve Lavin understands Daley's decision. "It's been nice to have Kevin in our program the last two years," Lavin said. "I understand his decision and we wish him the best of luck at Azusa."
