Prior to Spring Practice, he volunteered to move from fullback to linebacker to assist a young unit ... Last played the position in high school ... Did an outstanding job of making the transition during Spring drills ... Made steady progress, his productivity and confidence building with each practice ... One of the strongest men on the team ... His bests of 541 pounds in the back squat and 500.5 pound in the bench rank No. 1 on the team while his 363-pound power clean ranks fourth.
1997 -- Appeared in all 12 games as the team's No. 2 fullback ... Started the first three games of the year before Craig Walendy moved into the lineup ... Netted 38 yards, most among the fullbacks, on 11 carries with a long run of seven yards ... Also made two receptions for 21 yards ... Gained 21 yards on four attempts versus Arizona ... Played 43 snaps at Washington State, 26 versus Tennessee and 24 at Stanford ... Played at least 10 snaps in 10 of 12 games and also contributed on special teams.
1996 -- Did a good job as a sophomore reserve, primarily as a blocking back ... Appeared in all 11 games on special teams and the first seven on offense ... Started one (Michigan) of the six games in which the Bruins opened with a two-back alignment and was the first fullback into the game at Tennessee and Michigan ... Played 25 snaps against Northeast Louisiana, 24 at Oregon and 18 at Tennessee ... Carried twice for six yards, including a five-yard run versus Northeast Louisiana, and caught a 13-yard pass against Arizona State. 1995 -- Became the starting fullback against Fresno State and started all five of the last eight in which the Bruins opened with two backs ... His blocking added a dimension to the Bruin running game ... On the year, he carried the ball 11 times for 24 yards and one touchdown and made seven receptions for 84 yards ... Against USC he scored a one-yard touchdown to make the score 14-0 and also caught two passes for 18 yards, including a key first down on UCLA's first scoring drive ... His 20-yard catch-and-run in the Aloha Bowl was the longest of his career ... Rushed for 13 yards on four carries against Fresno State. HIGH SCHOOL -- Lettered three seasons at linebacker and fullback at Bloomington High for coach Don Markham ...
