Mens Golfers Drop Into 13th Place

The UCLA mens golf team, ranked 25th nationally in this weeks MasterCard Poll, fell to 13th place in the NCAA West Regionals at the Tucson National Resort, hosted by the University of Arizona.
The Bruins 36-hole total of 600 is six shots behind Pepperdine in ninth place, the spot at which UCLA needs to finish to qualify for the NCAA Championships, June 2-5, at Hazeltine Country Club. Pac-10 champion Arizona State leads the tournament with a score of 571, five-under par, followed by defending NCAA champion UNLV and BYU at 577. Oregon, which fired a three-under par team total of 285 Friday, vaulted from 10th place to fourth at 582.
Individually, the Bruins Jeff McGraw shot an even-par 72 and is tied for 20th at 147. Senior Byron Schlagenhauf shot a 77 and is tied for 40th at 149; freshman Parker McLachlin is tied for 64th at 153 and junior Jason Semelsberger and sophomore Kevin Bodlovich are tied for 67th at 154.
ASUs Jeff Quinney fired a two-under par 70 Friday and leads the field at 139, five-under par. A trio of players is tied for second at 141 - BYUs Billy Harvey, UNLVs Michael Kirk and San Diego States James Stewart.
The final round begins Saturday at 7 a.m.
