Martin Named to Kodak All-American Team

March 26, 1999
LOS ANGELES -UCLA forward Maylana Martin and nine other women's basketball standouts were selected to the Division I Kodak All-American team Thursday.
Martin, a 6-3 junior from Perris, CA, becomes UCLA's first Kodak All- American since Natalie Williams earned the honor in 1994. Martin is just one of four Bruins ever to receive the award, joining Williams, three-time honoree Denise Curry (1979-81) and four-time selection Ann Meyers (1975-78). The Pac-10 Player of the Year led the Bruins in scoring (18.2 points per game) and rebounding (9.4 rpg). Martin, who led the Bruins to their first-ever Pac-10 title and Elite Eight appearance this year, has totalled 1,595 career points, sixth-most in school history.
Seven players whom Martin and the Bruins faced in 1998-99 join Martin on the All-America team, including Tennessee forward Chamique Holdsclaw, who became only the fourth four-time honoree, joining Meyers, Lynette Woodard of Kansas (1978-81) and Cheryl Miller of USC (1983-86).
