Football to Play at Miami on Dec. 5
October 13, 1998
CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) - UCLA and Miami will meet Dec. 5 at the Orange Bowl, making up a game canceled due to Hurricane Georges.
Game time wasn't immediately decided, according to Miami athletic director Paul Dee. Tickets for the previously scheduled meeting will be honored.
The teams were scheduled to play at the Orange Bowl on Sept. 26 in a game to be televised by CBS, but the threat from Georges as it headed toward South Florida prompted the cancellation. Georges spared metropolitan Miami, hitting the lower Florida Keys instead.
Dee, who at one point indicated he was "99.9 percent certain" the game would not be made up, said a deal was worked out.
"We worked very well between the University of Miami and UCLA, and we were able to overcome various obstacles," Dee said Monday.
