All Eight Bruins Advance to Second Round of Pac-10 Championships

OJAI, Calif. - All eight of UCLA's men's tennis players advanced to the second round of the Pac-10 Men's Individual Conference Championships held in Ojai, California.
In the main competition, senior captain Brandon Kramer defeated Arizona's Alex Brown 6-3, 6-3 early Thursday morning. Freshman Julien Rojer beat Arizona State's Alex Osterrieth 6-2, 6-3, improving his overall record to 23-1. The afternoon continued on a positive note for the Bruins, as junior All-American Jean-Noel Grinda bested California's Robert Kowalczyk 3-6, 6-0, 6-3 and senior Jong-Min Lee handed USC's Daniel Langre a 6-1, 6-3 loss.
In the second round, which is also held on Thursday, Kramer faces Arizona State's Matt Klinger and Rojer will meet Washington's Andy Posavac. Grinda meets Arizona State's Pim Van Mele, while Lee faces off against Stanford's K.J. Hippensteel, who is ranked 15th in the nation.
The Bruins also dominated the Pac-10 Invitational Men's Singles competition. Junior Chris Sands cruised past USC's Christian Jensen 6-2, 6-0, while freshman Travis Rettenmaier knocked off USC's Scott Merryman 6-2, 6-1. Freshmen Lassi Ketola and Erfan Djahangiri both received first round byes.
Sands will face Washington's Dilion Ruby in the second round and Djahangiri is slated to play USC's Parker Collins. Rettenmaier will compete against Mark Woolley of Washington and Ketola will meet Cal's David Tzou.
The Pac-10 Individual Championships conclude on Sunday, April 30. Matches begin at 8 am, with two rounds of singles on opening day. One round of singles and two rounds of doubles will be played on Friday. Semifinals will be held on Saturday at 11 am, and the finals will be held the following day at 11 am.
The Pac-10 Championships are held annually in conjunction with the Ojai Tennis Tournament, the oldest amateur tennis tounrnament in the United States. Information on the Ojai Tournament and complete results can be accessed at www.ojaitennistourney.org.
