May 23, 2000
Malibu, Calif. -- UCLA senior Annica Cooper dropped her second-round match Tuesday at the NCAA Women's Tennis Championships, falling to Arizona State's Karin Palme 6-3, 6-1.
On Monday, Cooper upset the tournament's No. 8 seed, Megan Miller of Duke, 7-5, 6-4. The Bruins have no more players in the NCAA singles draw as on Monday, freshman Sara Walker was forced to retire from her first-round match against Mississippi's Julie DeRoo with a bulging disc in her back.
UCLA's No. 2 doubles team of Elizabeth Schmidt and Abigail Spears are still alive in the doubles draw. They won their first-round match Monday, defeating Purdue's Jennifer Embry/Shyanna Taheny 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. They move on to face Martina Ondrejkova/Iva Puflerova in Tuesday's second round.
