2000 UCLA Sports Camps
LOS ANGELES - Youth instructional camps in 12 sports - baseball, boy's and girl's basketball, football, golf, gymnastics, boy's and girl's soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, throwing, volleyball and girl's water polo - will be conducted by UCLA coaches during the summer of 2000. Signups are being accepted now for the following camps:
BASEBALL
2000 Pac-10 Co-Champions! Join Coach Gary Adams and the UCLA coaching staff for an exceptional baseball experience. Campers will receive hands-on experience in hitting, fielding, throwing, sliding and base running. It is open to boys and girls ages 7-12. Day camp runs 9:00am-3:00pm.
BOY'S BASKETBALL
This action-packed camp features drills and demonstrations in all aspects of the game. Campers will receive quality instruction in the fundamentals, such as dribbling, passing, shooting, rebounding, and team strategies. Day camp is open to boys ages 6-12. Overnight camp is open to boys 9-18. Day camp runs 9:00am-3:00pm.
GIRL'S BASKETBALL
1999 Pac-10 Champions! Hoop it up with Head Coach Kathy Olivier and team members for an exciting session of basketball. Fundamental instruction, individual competition and team competition are a part of the camp's activities. The camp's goal is to encourage enjoyment and skills improvement by providing a disciplined and fun learning environment. Day camp is open to girls ages 6-14. Day camp runs 9:00am-3:00pm. Overnight camp is open to girls 9-18.
FOOTBALL
Take the field with Bob Toledo and the Bruin coaching staff. Learn how the Bruins have become one of the elite programs in the country. Instruction, drills, and scrimmages will be non-contact. Day camp is open to players ages 8-13 and overnight camp is open to high school players ages 14-18. Experience personal instruction with an emphasis on the fundamentals. Day Camp runs 9:00am-3:00pm.
GOLF
Tee it up with Head Coach Brad Sherfy for an exciting week of golf. The camp staff includes instructors with extensive coaching and playing experience. Golf camp will be held at the beautiful Desert Princess Country Club in Palm Springs. Campers will stay at the luxurious Doral Resort. Camp is open to boys and girls ages 9-18. Campers will be grouped by age and ability.
GYMNASTICS
2000 NCAA Champions! Gymnastics is a fun and exciting sport! Campers will walk across a balance beam, flip into a foam "pit" or dance across the mat. Train with the UCLA coaching staff as well as former Olympians and World Champions. Camp is open to girls ages 8-18. Day camp runs 9a.m.-5:00p.m. Campers will be grouped by age and ability.
SOCCER
For a week of the best in offensive and defensive instruction, UCLA Soccer Camp is an experience you won't want to miss. UCLA Head Coaches Todd Salda?a and Jillian Ellis will lead campers through demonstrations and strategies used in training the Bruin teams. Day camps, resident and goalkeeper camps are offered. Day camps run 9:00am-3:00pm.
SOFTBALL
1999 NCAA CHAMPIONS! Join Head Coach Sue Enquist and her staff for an intense softball experience. Instruction includes the same training concepts as the Bruin softball team to achieve their great success. A fundamental and advanced camp will be offered. The advanced session is for players who have one-year experience playing with a high school varsity team or ASA traveling team. For girls ages 9-18.
SWIMMING
Make a splash at the UCLA Swimming Camp. Campers receive small-group instruction as they learn stroke and conditioning techniques through intense workouts and land demonstrations. Camp is open to boys and girls ages 8-18. Campers must be able to complete a one-hour swim workout. Campers are grouped according to age and ability. Camp runs 8:45am-3:30pm.
TENNIS
Head Coach Billy Martin and his talented team of coaches provide spectacular instruction for beginner through advanced players. Many of our staff competed on the collegiate and professional level. Campers receive training in all tennis strokes, strength and conditioning and the mental aspects of the game. Early commuter fees include instruction and lunch and hours run 8:45am-5:30pm. Late commuter fees include instruction, lunch and dinner and private lessons. Late commuter sessions run 8:45am-9:15pm. Camp is open to boys and girls ages 7-18. Child must be at least 9 years-old to be a resident camper.
THROWING
2000 Indoor NCAA Champions! Head Coach Art Venegas is the top throwing coach in the country. He has trained numerous Olympic and World champions. Campers learn from coaches with experience at collegiate and international competitions. Throwing Camp focuses on the discus and shot put events.
VOLLEYBALL
2000 Men's NCAA Champions! Spike it up at UCLA Volleyball Camp this summer. Coed and girls camp and an adult weekend clinic are offered. Players with beginning through advanced skill levels will receive personalized, intense volleyball training. UCLA coaches Andy Banachowski and Al Scates have trained the top amateur and professional beach volleyball players in the country. Register now and learn from the legends in volleyball!
WATER POLO
2000 National Champions! Have fun and improve your water polo skills as Head Coach Adam Krikorian shares with you the secrets of the Bruins' success! The UCLA men's and women's water polo programs have won a combined seven national titles in the past five years. All staff are highly qualified instructors who have extensive playing and coaching experience. Camp is for girls ages 12-18.
GENERAL INFORMATION
CAMP FEATURES - Free camp T-shirt, contests and awards, individual and small group instruction and instruction by UCLA coaches and student-athletes.
CAMP STAFF - UCLA is committed to giving you the best instruction possible. UCLA coaches and staff are present each day to help you improve. You have the opportunity to learn from current and former UCLA student athletes. A UCLA athletic trainer is on duty at all times to attend to and UCLA coaches and staff reside with the campers in the residence hall to provide evening supervision.
DAY CAMP CHECK-IN/OUT - Day camp drop off and pick up will take place at Parking Structure #8. Day camp check-in on the first day will take place between 8:00-9:00a.m. The following days of camp will begin at 9:00a.m. and end at 3:00p.m. Campers must be signed out by a parent or guardian upon pick-up.
OVERNIGHT CAMP CHECK-IN/OUT - Overnight camp check- in/out will take place at the residence hall. Location and directions will be included in confirmation information.
COMMUTERS - Commuter campers must check-in on the first day of camp at the same time and location as resident campers. On the following days, you will arrive in the morning between 8:00-8:30a.m. at the residence hall. Commuters have lunch and dinner meals in the cafeteria. Campers may be picked up between 9:00-9:30p.m. at the residence hall.
TRANSPORTATION - Transportation to and from the airport will be the responsibility of the camper.
HEALTH CARE & INSURANCE - Each camper must provide their own insurance. Parents or guardians will be billed for any medical care given at the UCLA Medical Center or at hospital facilities. Athletic trainers are on duty to administer to minor injuries or sickness. Camp medical staff is NOT responsible for administering prescribed medication.
REFUND POLICY - There is a $50 per camp session cancellation fee for ALL cancellations made at least two weeks before the first day of the camp. If cancellation, for any reason including medical, is made within two weeks of the camp, there is a $100 cancellation fee. All cancellations must be received in writing or faxed. No refund will be issued after the first day of camp. No refund will be issued upon expulsion or voluntary withdrawal from camp.
DISCOUNT - Current members of the UCLA Alumni Association and current members of the UCLA Faculty/Staff are eligible for a $25 discount per camp session. A photocopy of the Alumni Association membership card or UCLA Faculty/Staff ID must be submitted with the application.
