SAN DIEGO STATE COACH KATHY VAN WYK
This is a huge relief for us. We started on a good note, we've had great defense and pitching all year. We scored a couple of runs when we could advance the leadoff runner when we got them on base. Our offense has been anemic at times this year. Today, we had good baserunning and were aggressive when we could be.
Today, we felt like we had nothing to lose. We played that way, too. We are thrilled to be here and are having a blast.
Tashie (Aguinaga) has been on fire for two weeks now. We had a great learning experience last week in the finals of our tournament. Everything is going our way now. We used that game as preparation for this one. That helped us a lot.
On the upset of No. 2 seed Fresno State earlier in the day
This regional is totally up for grabs. Obviously, UCLA is the favorite, but Fresno was upset earlier, and you may consider this game an upset as well.
PITCHER SANDRA DURAZO
I felt really comfortable out there, and I had a lot of confidence. Last tournament, I was throwing really well. It felt great to get some runs on the scoreboard
Last weekend, we though our season was over. When we found out on Sunday that we were coming here, we just decided to come out and enjoy it.
CAL STATE NORTHRIDGE
HEAD COACH JANET SHERMAN
I'm very disappointed. We're a better team and that's not the team I've been coaching for the last month that showed up today. They beat us. Coming into the game we were fine. Practice all week has been great. Practice yesterday was great. We just didn't show up today.
On SDSU
They didn't expect to be here from what I hear so they had nothing to lose. I expected them to come out and play hard and that's exactly what they did.
