Los Angeles - Eric Reece (El Dorado Hills, CA/Oak Ridge HS) agreed to terms with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays organization last Thursday, signing as a free agent. He was eligible to sign as a free agent as a fifth-year senior. Reece was assigned to the Devil Rays' rookie team in the New York-Penn League and will report to the Hudson Valley Renegades before their opening day on June 19th. He will move from first base, where he played at UCLA, to catcher for the Renegades.
Reece finished his senior season as the Bruins' leader in home runs with 10. He batted .259 with 14 doubles and 44 RBI. He had a .472 slugging percentage. He follows in his family tradition, as his father Bob played professional baseball, and his cousins, Geoff and Brett Jenkins are also professional baseball players.
