UCLA Clothing & Shoe Drive a Huge Success

June 7, 2001
Los Angeles - UCLA student-athletes, staff and coaches recently took part in a two day clothing and shoe drive, June 5-6, aimed at helping homeless and disadvantaged people at the L.A. Mission.
The drive, which generated over 50 bags of clothing and was sponsored by the Bruin Athletic Council (BAC), is part of an ongoing community outreach effort aimed at supporting local non-profit organizations. This past November, the BAC raised close to 600 non-perishable items as part of a Thanksgiving food drive benefiting One Incredible Family Inc.

"We thought this was a good time for spring cleaning because everyone is moving back home or to new apartments," said Leilani Bagby, BAC co-chair and head of the BAC's Community Service Subcommittee. "Our main focus is to get more involved with the community and help those less fortunate. This year we did something each quarter but next year we'd like to do something on a monthly basis."
The BAC is comprised entirely of student-athletes from each of UCLA's 22 sports.
