UCLA's Drake Stadium Hosts 2005 Pacific-10 Conference Multi-Events Championships Saturday-Sunday (May 7-8)

UCLA's Drake Stadium on Saturday-Sunday (May 7-8) will host the 2005 Pacific-10 Multi-Events Championships, featuring top women and men's athletes from Pac-10 conference schools competing in the heptathlon (women/seven events) and the decathlon (men/10 events). There will be no ticket charge for this event.
Women
As of April 25, the top conference heptathletes were Washington
State sophomores, twins - Diana (5,492/NCAA provisional qualifier) and Julie
(5,414/NCAA provisional qualifier) Pickler.
UCLA sophomore Nastassja Hall is No. 4 on the current Pac-10 chart,
with an NCAA provisional mark of 5,191.
Last year's Pac-10 heptathlon champion, Arizona State's Jackie Johnson, is redshirting this outdoor season and will not compete.
Men
The No. 1 Pac-10 decathlete entering the championships is Oregon junior Andy Young (7,016/NCAA provisional qualifier). UCLA sophomore David Murphy is No. 4 on the current Pac-10 chart (5,702). UCLA's top decathlete, junior David Shortenhaus (6,217), is out with an injury.
Last year's decathlon champion, freshman Tommy Skipper, also the defending Pac-10 pole vault champion, earlier this season injured a knee (that required surgery) and he is not expected to compete.
Looking Ahead
UCLA's Drake Stadium will host the 2005 Pacific-10 Track & Field Championships on May 14-15 (Saturday-Sunday). On Saturday (May 14), field events (all finals-men's hammer/javelin/pole vault/long jump/shot put; women's-high jump/shot put/long jump/javelin) begin at 10:30 a.m. and running events (four finals-women and men's steeplechase/10,000m; all other running events are qualifying heats to Sunday's finals) at 1:20 p.m., concluding at 6:45 p.m. On Sunday (May 15), field events (all finals) begin at 10:30 a.m. and running events (all finals) at 1:30 p.m., concluding at 5:45 p.m.
