Richards Wins Inaugural Heptathlon Competition at RJ/JJK Invite

Junior Georgea Richards picked up the first heptathlon victory of her career on Friday as she won the inaugural multi-event competition at the fifth-annual Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational.
Richards scored a UCLA-best 4,956 points, just 43 shy of the NCAA provisional qualifying score of 5,000 points as she ran a lifetime-best in the 800m and threw a season-best mark in the javelin.
In the first event of the day, the long jump, Richards posted a mark of 18-7.75 for 753 points. She then threw a season-best 77-11 in the javelin for 359 points. Richards wrapped up the win with a lifetime-best run in the 800m of 2:22.45 (791 points) for a second day point total of 1,903 points.
Competition continues on Friday with the open/collegiate events. Full results will be posted at the remainder of the meet.
